Don't give up on HSMWorks, make it great again and make a lot of money with it!   Instead of abandoning HSMWorks, Autodesk should bring the system up to date. That would be easy as they have already developed the technology in Fusion.   All SWX + HSMWorks customers would be on board and would be prepared to pay even more money.   Autodesk would remain credible and would not go down in history as the gravedigger of HSMWorks. Perhaps Autodesk has not yet understood why Autodesk/HSMWorks is the best CAM for Solidworks?   It is the best integrated, no import export. It has a modern and simple operation. It looks simple and therefore many believe it is not powerful, but it can keep up with other CAM systems, especially when the improvements of Fusion are included. Fusion and Solidworks appeal to different buyers and are not in competition. Autodesk can keep its foot in the door of the competitor with HSMWorks. Solidworks CAM is far inferior to HSMWorks. Autodesk should establish HSMWorks as the standard for Solidworks.   Perhaps internal forces have rendered HSMWorks worthless. This is total rubbish and abandoning HSMWorks is just stupid.   There are 8 million Solidworks seats in the world. If Autodesk equips 1% of them with HSMWorks and charges EUR 2,500.00 per year, that's a turnover of EUR 200,000,000.   Don't be stupid and throw that revenue away.   Autodesk Marketing has successfully not promoted HSMWorks. Correct that and make HSMWorks, a Autodesk product great again. It is better for you. It is better for us and it is better for your shareholders.   If decision-makers get in the way, fire them and hire managers who have more vision and the courage to get things done. Show More

HI there, Very often I have situation where I need to use G00 when plunging (because I plung not in material but outside of stock and then start to machine part with lead in). However, I don't have option to set plung in G00 but only in G01 with specified feedrate. This can be annoying because if I machine part with high height (as one in attachment) and if I use e.g. feedrate 100 or similar, my tool is going down very very slow and my machining time is then increased. I hope I explained well. In short: I need plunge option with G00 rapid movement. This would be very machining time saving option (also programming time). Hello Autodesk, We would love to see a more automated process for posting CAM programs along with their corresponding set up sheets.  We have multiple setups in one assembly. Presently each setup has to be posted individually as well as the setup sheet that goes with it.  The setup sheet has to be renamed manually, as it defaults to the Assembly file name.  It would be great to post a group of setups to a folder location and with that group post Inventor would also make the setup sheet for each, using the same file name as the setup.   Show More

Hello,    Hope you are finding this post in good health and wellness.    Fusion 360 has been getting some nice upgrades lately. InventorCam has been consistent with what it has, but hasn't improve nearly at the rate Fusion 360's cam has.    Currently I am bottle necked at 4 axis, and 4+1 machining. It would be REALLY NICE if autodesk would release a InventorCam machining extension that plugs directly into inventor, and isn't cloud based.  Thanks Joe.  PS, I know fusion has it, but Fusion is not an option for us to use. First, I should introduce myself. I am a product manager here at Autodesk, I have been working on FeatureCAM for many years and am exited to be responsible for bringing automation into HSM. As a first project, we thought hole making and drilling would be a good place to start. Here is a short screencast showing where we are currently with drilling automation. We are starting to work on delivering an API for Inventor HSM. This will be made available as a COM library, similar to Inventor’s own API. We are very interested in your feedback regarding what kinds of things you’d like to be able to do in an Inventor-based API.   Initially, we would likely support capabilities along the lines of those supported in the APIs within Fusion 360 and HSMWorks, for example: Access to the list of operations in a document Generating/regenerating toolpath data Checking availability of toolpath data Post processing Setting model geometry   We expect to be able to leverage an API in Inventor HSM to be able to enable interesting iLogic-based workflows. In both HSMWorks and Inventor HSM, as soon as the CAD application launches it pulls a license for the HSM CAM add-in. This makes managing the network license a real pain in the butt.   In scenarios where a company has 1 HSM multi-user subscription, for their 6 designers to use with their pre-existing installations of Solidworks and Inventor, the first user to launch their CAD application immediately takes the CAM license. Then the employee who actually needs to use the license has to ask everyone to close their CAD applications, or somehow find out who has the license and ask them to shutdown or unload the CAM addin.   It's not a nice thing to have to go through. Currently the only way to manage this is to go into the Inventor or Solidworks Add-in manager and stop the add-in from loading on startup. So everytime someone wants to use CAM they have to go into that menu, enable the add-in wait for the delay for all the toolbars to load then start using the product.   Multi-user licenses are more expensive than single user licenses, but the end user experience is far worse in most design/programming/machining environments where CAD seats of Inventor or Solidworks already exist.    I would like to see the add-in only request a license when the user tries to create or edit any non HSM(E)Xpress toolpaths or setups.... or even just when they try to edit or create anything in the HSM environment. There might be a delay at that point, but if there is just pop up a notification overlay stating that it's getting a license from the server. Please Please fix/improve this experience. Show More

I am now trying to do a single grove on a face of a roller as I don’t want any stepover. No matter what I try, the Turning profile groove operation wont allow me to just do a single groove it needs a stepover, so I am currently trying the single groove operation, however when I try this operation with the face grooving tool it says orientation not supported, it seems as though single groove operation in HSMWorks will only allow radial grooving and not axial Show More

I currently use Edgecam for machining our lathe and in there, there is an option for turning a longer less rigid area in sections at a chosen length. For example a 1/2" diameter that is 14" long with a 3/4" dia. shoulder. Turning conventionally the full 14" and working smaller many times will cause chatter in the roughing. With the the section cutting I am able to put a section cut in to a rough turning operation and it will break that 14" long cut into an increment that I choose for a "Z" length, example 1" long. What this does is turns the 1st 1" length from the tailstock down to the rough diameter and then progressively works its way to the shoulder an inch at a time. This keeps the part much more rigid for heavier roughing to be done without chatter. This is an option that I will definitely miss from edgecam but know I can do a work around using confinement and using multiple turn setups but not as clean and much more time consuming. In the setup tab, it would be nice to be able to check a box and adjust distances for the tool change position.  Having the ability to set the Safe Tool position for each individual tool would be handy when you only have one or two long tools in the program or working on a rotary table. Show More

This idea is for Fusion 360. Could we make it so the custom setup sheets and options are available from right clicking your current setup instead of having to right click a posted NC program? Right now you'll get two different setup sheets depending where you started from. Make it so we can delete custom setup sheets because I have way too many and theres no way to delete them. Also wondering if we could add an option to make it easier to see your work coordinate offset easier from the setup sheet. As of right now its almost impossible to tell exactly where a part needs picked up on from just using the image generated. Maybe just enlarge the WCS or possible there could be a note or text box next to the part image or under the setup box on the setup sheet.   Show More
