Problem with Mesh - bought 3d car model

Hello all,

So I have recently decided to start getting into some car rendering.

I have used fusion 360 for a while now but only the Model and Render section, I haven't really explored the Mesh and Sculpt Sections yet.

I have purchased a few base models on Turbosquid,

When I import the model in ( FBX. OBJ. STL.) it is always imported as a mesh which is understandable because it's not a F3D. File.

It's fine as I can apply textures to the mesh components in the @'rootnode' list.

However; two problems.

A. I can not apply decals to mesh bodies or TSplines -> when I attempt to convert the mesh to a solid body the operation is aborted because there are too many facets.

B. Some parts are grouped together and I have no idea how to separate them out. to make this clear I will give an example:

Both the front car doors are linked together but so is the window. they are together as if it was the same component? is there a way to separate them out? do I literally have to convert it to solid and then select each individual facet to change the appearance?

Thank you for all the help in advance 🙂

Hey popoxd,

F360 isn't really intended to be a dedicated rendering tool. Mesh functionality is limited, and focuses on using this geometry for manufacturing. Decals, appearances, and most other functionality is limited to BRep geometry.

There are several different ways to get from mesh geometry to BRep geometry, and the right approach will depend on the mesh you’re working with and the result you’re trying to achieve. Here are a few videos that will help explain the mesh - to - BRep workflow:

thank you very much!

I will check them out 🙂

I was only going to use it to modify the models and then possibly render in Keyshot 🙂

Thank you for the help 😄
