Preferences lost on startup

Hi all,Hopefully this isn't too similar to another issue I saw - seems a bit different to me.

I'm new to Fusion, and having installed the software I've noticed I lose my preferences every time I run it. I also notice it displays the teams prompt while loading, and the new update banner once open (screenshot attached). It always relates to the same update, I've checked (Jan 29 2020, V2.0.7421)

I also now face the same issue on my laptop, having tried to also use Fusion on there (same account). This happens without fail when I run the program on either PC. Both are Win10, latest version 1909, build 18363.628.

Well, you're not the only one having this issue. I've tried clearing the cache, I've tried reinstalling. Having to reorient my workspace to Z up every time I start a new file -- that option in particular doesn't even persist in-session! -- is infuriating me.

I am working as a Consultant in Hungary. I have a user with the same problem. I write this comment to follow this discussion because we can not find an answer.

Same here on macOS. First install of Fusion 360 on my machine yesterday (no previous experience with the program) and no settings are saved. Language, Modeling orientation, etc.

It always starts up as if it was the first startup after installing.

Hello,

Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. We have been able to reproduce it and apologize for the inconvenience it is causing. It happens when you create a new account or login to an existing account using a new install of Fusion.

We are working on a fix for this with very high priority. In the meantime there is a workaround that you use to get your preferences working again if you are being impacted by this issue:

  1. Shut Fusion down
  2. Go to the location of the preferences file for Fusion
    • WindowsBrowse to %appdata%\Roaming\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options{alphanumeric folder name}
    • MacBrowse to ~Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Neutron Platform/Options/{alphanumeric folder name}
    • If you have more than folder with an alphanumeric name, go to the latest one as determined by timestamp
  3. Verify that there is no file called NGlobalOptions.xml there
  4. Manually add the missing preferences file
    • If this is a brand new account then you can put the attached (intentionally empty) NGlobalOptions.xml in the location from #2
    • If this is an existing account then ideally you can copy the NGlobalOptions.xml from another machine where it already exists in the location mentioned in #2 (ensure that the {alphanumeric folder name} matches on both machines) and paste into the current machine's preferences file location
  5. Restart Fusion

At this point, your preferences workflows should start working again. If it doesn't work please let us know. We will keep you posted on the status of the code fix.

Sincerely,

Saket Satta

Brilliant, that did it for me. Thanks!

Both solutions (xml from backup and empty) did not work for me. Fusion restarted ok, with the "new version" banner displayed, so something must have happened, and language could not be changed.

Changing Windows Language to English is an acceptable workaround.

Thank you! Preferences are being saved now, except for the language, which still reverts back to the system language on restart.

I can confirm that it works not for all settings. Some of them, such as Reverse zoom direction and Limit effects to optimize performance, are still resetting every launch.

Hi @radiophysique ,

Can you try putting this attached file in %appdata%\Roaming\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options

Note it is in Options, not the alphanumeric folder within options like the other files. Once the file is in, make the changes in preferences and restart and let me know (such as changing default language).

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous ,

I'm trying... I think it's getting deleted. Let me try here.

Edit: Zipped it to try to get it to upload. When you go to use it, unzip the zip file, and move the .xml file per my original post.

Confirmed working on macOS, language selection is now saved.

Thanks for the workaround!

Works for me. Note that this is a new file, no NMachineSpecificOptions.xml was present before. However, I found the file on the backup of my old installation, which also contained NGlobalOptions.xml; the latter is still not present in the changed installation.

Can confirm, it works on Windows 10. Windows size, zoom direction and limited graphics options are unchanged now! Thanks!

Hi all,

Good to hear! For Mac location it is ~Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Neutron Platform/Options

Note for anyone reading this and getting a bit confused - do both Saket's steps and my steps to fix all issues in this thread. We are hoping to have a permanent fix out for this real soon! This workaround will work in the interim.

Thanks,

Hi, thanks for the feedback. It looks like my workaround from yesterday was only partial, apologies for that.

James has added the missing steps to get the remaining preferences (Zoom, language etc) to be saved in his replies earlier in this thread. I will add those steps to my answer so the complete workaround is in one place. This should get both the local and global preferences to start working again. Also, as James mentioned, we are working on getting the fix out in the next few days. Thanks for your patience!

  1. Shut Fusion down
  2. Go to the location of the global preferences file for Fusion
    • WindowsBrowse to %appdata%\Roaming\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options{alphanumeric folder name}
    • MacBrowse to ~Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Neutron Platform/Options/{alphanumeric folder name}
  5. Go to the location of the local preferences file for Fusion
    • WindowsBrowse to %appdata%\Roaming\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options
    • MacBrowse to ~Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Neutron Platform/Options
  6. Verify that there is no file called NMachineSpecificOptions.xml there
  7. Manually add the missing preferences file
    • Put the attached (intentionally empty) NMachineSpecificOptions.xml in the location from #6
  8. Restart Fusion

These fixes did nothing. Prefs are still reset to default on launch.
