Can't export stl when working offline

You can't create a new file offline and export an stl file for 3d printing. You get an "Autodesk translation service failed" message. As soon as you take the app online and let it upload your file you can take it offline again and the export will work. Must be a bug.

You can create an STL any time (offline or online) from the component browser.  Just select the body, right click and choose "save as STL":

You're right. The menu item 3d print will not work but right-clicking on the body and save as stl works.

Thanks!!

I can also only export an .stl file when I am online. When Fusion360 is in offline mode and I try to generate an .stl file I get the following error messages:

  • Autodesk Translation Services could not convert the actual document in an STL file.
  • STL Translator failed to export data.

I use a free "start-up-licence" maybe this is the problem.

However, it is very annoying.

You can export STL locally, whether online or offline.  Right click on the body, and choose Save as STL:

You are exporting an offline design that has before been online, which works for me as well. However, when working purely offline from the start, fusion gives the same error message... Any ideas?

I am able to replicate the error: when a new design is made while the program is offline all the time (like in your original video), as lang as it has not been saved the body can indeed be exported. However, once it is saved,  exporting an STL or STEP for example gives an error. Could this be a bug?

It's been almost two years and offline export is still bugged. 😞

I just got hit with same thing today. I started a design while working offline (not by my choice, it's maintenance time ... again, and who knows for how long).

Same error message about autodesk services unable to convert the file.

When I try to create a new design and NOT SAVE IT, then I can convert a body to STL without issue.

It's only when an offline design is saved and then you attempt to export STL file, while in offline all the time, it fails no matter what you try.

I am starting to get tired of this "always online" concept, that stops working when you least need it. 😞

Why such a basic functionallity as model conversion to triangles can't be done on my computer locally? It is not a super computer task, just a dumb format conversion. I just don't get it.

Any hope of reopening the issue and actually fixing this bug?

Thanks.

They will never fix this, they like to know what you're doing

I have no problem with those designs eventually uploading when their servers are back online.

My issue is new offline design can be exported as long as it is unsaved, but the moment you save it, it can no longer be converted. The only change being the design is saved locally and waiting for upload.

And since I am in offline mode only involuntarily ever, it really agitates me more.

I really fail to see any benefit, even for the big brother, to doing "model to triangles" conversion online. It only prevents me to use the Fusion for preparing models for printing when Autodesk decides to do a maintenance. The best is time seems to be on a weekend when I do most of my printing apparently. 😞

Works great for the 2020 version, the free version.

I had the same issue, here's my workaround (if you've already saved your file and can't export by right clicking on the body): First export your design as an .f3d file, then open it in Fusion and the export as stl with the right-click-on-body-method should work.

Real wonderful now with the server being offline, I can't even go online to fix this.

Thanks @Anonymous this worked for me!!

And as most often, the marked solution is NOT the solution, it's the obvious, but not working, expected way, which did not work and led to the original question^^

Edit: I just startet Fusion360, saw the offline warning did a quick design, which I tried to export as STL.

Got the error mentioned above.

After saving to f3d file and reopening it exported fine as STL.

So this design never was online...

This isn't working any longer. Just tried.

1 - Opened F360

2 - Set to work Off-Line

3 - Exited F360

4 - Started F360

5 - Checked to see if it was still in "off-line" mode - it was.

6 - Opened a new sketch, made simple box

7 - Saved as a .f3d

8 - Closed the sketch

9 - Opened the .f3d file

10 - tired to export as a .STL - F360 gives the same error.

11 - Very sad face.

Hi,

for me it is still working:

2.0.9512
Aktiver Plan: Fusion 360, Personal
Windows 10 (19042)

1. I switched to offline mode, restarted f3d

2. create a box, export stl is working

3. export as f3d file (do not save, after that it does not work for me anymore)

4. close fusion

5. open the f3d file to start fusion

6. export as stl is working.

testet right now.

That's really odd, I'm running the same version of F360 and Windows 10 as
you are, the only difference is I'm using the Start Up version.

I will admit that since I'm fairly new I may have some setting buried deep
in the settings that may be affecting this, however, I doubt it, since I
did do a "reset to defaults".

Any Ideas?
Denis
