grouping multiple bodies

Hi,

I often find myself generating letters to 3d print later. Import and svg and extrude it, simple. Sometimes im also asked to provide a rendering and here I have a workflow question.

When I extrude the letters I get one body per letter in the browser, which can get confusing fast, espcially when you have to apply colors in the rendering environment. The selecting multiple bodies and rightclicking to form a group doesnt do anything and putting groups of bodies into components isnt really necessesary. Selection sets also dont work in the render environment.

How to yo guys handle "body groups"?

Cheers

We dont!

We abide by Fusion 360 R.U.L.E #1: Before doing anything, create a component and make sure it is activated.

In your model, you make one component called "Word" and then within that component you create one more component for each letter.

Each of these components will then contain the sketch for that paerticular letter and the body for that particular letter.

You can then move the components for the unique letters by double-clicking on the object in the viewport ans selecting the move tool, or you can selct the "Word" component and move them all together.

IF you imported and SVG the contains tha whole word, and then extrude it, this still will contain several bodies.

So the best way to address that is a multibody component. In essence you'd still first create the "Word" component (make sure it's activated) and then import the SVG into the sketch in that component and extrude the letters.

Then you can still move that component by selecting it in the browser and using the move command.
