VR support for Fusion 360

VR support for Fusion 360

I originally posted this idea in Inventor ideas, and i know that there have been similar ideas posted in here, but I wanted to give my point of view my idea of CAD+VR setup.

At the moment VR is just growing at the consumer level, and the hardware that is good enough is here. and now at least in my country there are b2b company's that offer vr solutions. also VR developers and enthusiast who fiddle with the tech.

now compered to inventor update cycle to fusion 360's, its known and loved that fusion brings out updates and patches monthly

I think that fusion 360 and Inventor both should have VR integration, because it opens up new ways to work and collaborate

At the moment the best hardware to start implementing would be HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
why?

Because roomscale and motion controllers.

For example look at the program called tilt brush, and if any chance try it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91J8pLHdDB0 also August 2017 Gravity sketch came out
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4dbh8x8aUY&t=295s
what really got me with gravity sketch is the surface creation and modification and the overall feel how the models are made. it acts like splines where you have curvy line with control points.

VR for the ability to get sense of scale of the things you are modeling.

Motion controllers for modeling and interacting with parts.

Roomscale for walking around your model.

at the moment game engines like Unreal Engine 4 and Unity will have VR editor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKO9fEjNiio

and valve had awesome collection of demos, called the lab, and one of them is Human Body Scan where you can view 3D model of skeleton and the feeling i got, is the ability to slice the scan and look inside, and this would be awesome to to with assembles, the function to do that in fusion is there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PVAcLlYUpg

So my conclusion is that fusion 360 would be a good platform for bringing 3D CAD into VR, creating and modifying models in VR,
creating Assemblies like putting together Lego's. Doing collaboration in Virtual Environment when designers and engineers do not actually have to be in the same place is fascinatingly awesome. And what i have seen, is that VR is here to stay, and will become part of the way create, learn and do thing's.

Here here!

An engineer finally working in a VR CAD system is a fish entering the water for the 1st time. We have always communicated 3D ideas in the form of 2D images that contain perspective and shading information, but that old way is a far cry from the ability to walk around a virtual 3D object with stereoscopic vision. Fusion 360 could be a perfect Candidate for a fully functioning VR CAD solution.

VR CAD is inevitable.

You have my vote.

have a htc vive would love to see fusion360 dive into this kind of water 🙂

Having used many of the smaller entertainment based drawing software options in the Oculus store, I need this immersion in F360.  I need the depth of the F360 toolset merged with the intuitiveness of physical gestures and active manipulation.  If you guys are testing this feature, please sign me up for beta, I'll be happy to test it out for you.

I was in subcontracting fair in Sweden recently and PLM Group was showing Solidworks in VR. there was a conveyor system that you could interact with in VR, straight from the CAD to VR. Also one company was showing off their fully automated production cell, with ABB robots, and that was done in ABB robot studio, that one felt like you where really next to a moving production, and you could stick your head inside machines, where you could see the inner working of the system 😄

I'd love to see a colaboration between the free conceptmodeling function in gravity sketch and the cad modeling of fusion in VR.

and don't give us the 100th way to export a 3d file and view it outside 😄

I want the fun I have in Gravity. in fusion with the tools of fusion

cheeeers!

I just starting using Gravity Sketch this past weekend.  I left the
session feeling exactly the same way - I want the interaction of
Gravity, with access to the tool set in F360.  And the option to leave
VR and go back to keyboard and mouse for some applications would be
essential.

holy **** this would be totally awesome 😄

I would add my support to this as well....T-Splines would be a great place to start with this.  There is a promising piece of software that also does this (and I hope to import into Fusion and convert to TSplines), called Kodon...look at the 0:45 second mark in this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffmbjYhBk_o

Mixing something like this with voice commands in Fusion would be awesome.

Also, I used a Windows Mixed Reality set up, which I would vote for.  Since Autodesk has done a good amount of work with HoloLens, and I think that WMR is kind of based on that technology (maybe?) hopefully that will be a supported platform if this does come to life.

Agree on T-splines, and just for visualizing surfaces that have subtle shapes that don't render well in the model environment.

Separately, VR for toolpath simulation in CAM would be awesome. Would add that extra bit of certainty that you were getting what you wanted.

This would be a welcome addition... Revit Live has the ability to turn on VR at a click of a button if this could be integrated into fusion to look at large assemblies in VR it would help upsell ideas to clients and be a valuable tool in the design process. Please add VR to F360 🙂

can't agree more that both Fusion 360 vr and Inventor should have VR integration because it opens up new ways of working and collaborating.

Autodesk Vred currently has VR support, all be it limited. lets get this in Fusion.

The first search I did when considering the purchase of a VR system was to determine if there was full-development support for Fusion 360 (not just output).   Please prioritize this capability!

Already been waiting years for this. Probably won't get VR till this is released

Please! The potential is... (Insert epic word of choice here)

Now it's June 2019... I just ordered the Oculis Quest... and i am learning Fusion at  an accelerated rate... to have the ability to interact with things i have created before I 3D print them or machine them would be incredible. To run a machine simulation and look for possible collisions or issues BEFORE committing aluminum and steel in  my 5-axis machine... yeah... i'm salivating for this... seriously... it is no longer a "want" but a "need"...

Fusion 360 dudes... the time is here... please let's do this!

With the release of the Oculus Quest the bar to augmented/virtual reality has never been lower. Being able to model using VR controllers to push and pull surfaces in a VR environment would be incredibly powerful and potentially open up modelling to the masses. Imagine kids with their virtual play doh!

So many similiar ideas around the themes of VR/AR are here - if they were all l pulled together this idea would surely be near the top of Autodesk's 'to do' list.

Please vote for this topic if you think this would be a game changer!

I would like to see support for Windows Mixed Reality.  I believe that the support of a platform would go much further than a hardware specific implementation.

But I would love to see immersive support.

Thnx,

Dexter

Have the HTC Vive Pro and have experimented with photogrametric mesh models that I was able to import into TiltBrush and there I could place&scale those .obj files. I don't know if actual design in VR is practical, but a VR viewer of f3d files would be nice.
