Sketch Mirror with optional persistent symmetry

Sketch Mirror with optional persistent symmetry

Sketch Mirror is a useful tool but I recently found that its current behavior can lead to problems.

Mirror is often used based on the intention to create a "flipped copy" of entities, similar to what you get in other modelling software. In Fusion, the mirrored image is apparently constructed by applying Symmetry constraints to the source entities. What you get is an extension of the original entities and in certain scenarios that is great, as alterations one one side update the other. If the intention was to copy a complex set of curves as a template and then make some slight tweaks, this is not a great approach; the unnecessary computation of symmetry and other constraints on curves like fitted splines brings Fusion to its knees.

I could manually delete constraints after Mirror but that could lead to errors where more objects than desired are selected and also deleted.

My proposal is to have an option in the Mirror command dialog that will create the selected curves in a reflection but not constrain them.

Hi @RonSargeant,

That is great idea. Let´s gather more support 😉

Just in general, F360 needs a working design intent / patterning / symmetry engine

Done well, the app would not only preserve explicit symmetries, but infer possible patterns, symmetry, and parameters, with an easy way to make / break symmetries and patterns throughout the design

Please add the symmetry engine, in the model tool the mirrored components are loose and it doesn't make sense.
