Rotation point being always at the center of the screen

Rotation point being always at the center of the screen

Parts/components/assembly  rotation and manipulation should always be set at the center of the screen (we never really actually work on one corner of the screen) at a depth corresponding to the closest point of the geometries (intersection between a virtual axis perpendicular to the screen crossing the geometry).   This way, the rotation point would never have to be adjusted along the zoom.

This is super annoying when working on a long part and/or a large part with many small details.

Not only rotation, but all scene navigation is broken.

It's incredibly easy to find yourself zoomed into a point and then unable to move around from there.

Thanks Roambotics_Scott!

also, the center of the screen should take into acount windows placement like the browser that is probaby always in the way...

+1000000000.  This makes working on larger models very annoying.

My preference would be to have the pivot point set to what is immediately under the mouse pointer, but only when the entire model is not visible on the screen.  This is much faster than having to explicitly set the pivot point all the time.

When the entire model is visible the pivot point isn't such a big deal as long as it's roughly at the center of the screen.

@louisbrillon Are you using a trackpad or mouse? The trackpad is limiting, and improving the experience is our backlog, but we're not sure when we can get to it. If you have a mouse, clicking on where you want to rotate with the middle mouse button once and then SHIFT + Middle Mouse again will let you rotate around that point.

That's my point keqingsong, we should never have to reposition this rotation point if is is located always on the center of the screen, on the part, whatever the zoom. It is annoying to reposition this rotation point each time the model moves when working on a slim and long model.

«The trackpad is limiting»

No it's not. The software is broken.
