plunge milling

there needs to be a plunge milling toolpath the metal removal rate of some of the plunge mills on the market is ridiculously high and i would like to be able to utilize this using fusion.

thanks for the vote im running some parts right now that i think i could more than cut the time in half using a plunge mill

Normally it's only more effective if the toollength gets longer.

Since for not so deep cavities you get a lot of repositioning you don't have with a side milling operation.

But there are part where it would be usefull indeed.

yeah its a 2 inch deep pocket 4 inches wide 7.125 long and its open on 2 sides a plunge mill would make short work of it

The same challenge here: a disc with a chamber 75 mm deep and diameter of 600mm. Our cnc-tools supplier recommends plunge milling with a large diameter mill. A simple strategy to my opinion.

I use vertical milling extensively on parts we manufacture.My problem now is that I generate all my toolpathes in fusion and then have to do the Plunge Milling in a different Cad program and then combine the 2 after posting.

It would be really helpful and save me a lot of time if Fusion 360 had Plunge milling strategies.

3D contoured adaptive plunge milling! Sounds pretty sexy as a future development!

Thanks everyone for backing this idea. It's more than 2 years ago that this idea was posted, and I still hope that the "Future consideration" status will be upgraded to "Implemented". I also have the same wish for Inventor HSM/HSM Express, see https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/hsm-ideas/add-strategy-plunge-roughing/idi-p/6222842. I could need some votes too.
