New UI hard to read

New UI hard to read

So I recently got hit with the New UI and in general, I like the modern look of the Ribbon Bar Icons but the uniform color choice for the Browser Icons was a terrible one - And that's putting it mildly.

I just cannot make out at a glance what parts of a model I've hidden [V] or not making it agonizing to work with which is terrible! Please for what is holy to you either change the Visibility ON Icon back to a yellow glowing Lightbulb, like what it used to be OR embrace the blue of the Ribbon Icons and go with something like this:
I'm blue dabadee...I'm blue dabadee...

I completely agree. I know people are resistant to change but I think this one change is a genuine problem and a step backwards.

I hate hate HATE the new U.I ! The number one reason is that it is a huge step backwards by separating the user from the project in a variety of ways. Icons should be LARGE, easy to read, CLEARLY contrasted against the background. Where did the light bulbs go ?  I know I am dealing with stolkholm syndrome from the fan boys but this new UI is a disgrace. Thanks for screwing up something that WAS NOT BROKEN !! Common core user interface if there ever was one.

I also do not have any major objection to the new user interface except for the "Eyeball". First, it is just creepy! Second, I agree with the visibility comment. The light bulb was just easy to see and recognize the state.

Totally agree, I think every change is to the better, except the color of the visibility icon, it's hard now to quickly see if something is visible or not. Please change the color of the eye depending on visibility and not only the icon.

Same here, preferred the old UI in every way!

I like the idea of the blue from the ribbon also being used on the visible/eye icon.

Further, I would make the slash through the invisible icon maybe orange or faint red as well.

I am adjusting to the UI, and it is growing on me... but I have an issue, not so much with the Sauron eye, but more with the gray eye and black component name. My eyes are draw first to the text/name of the component and not the eye, if the text/name were grey along with the "Eye", it would be easier for me to quickly find those turned off in the browser.

The lack of color differentiation the lightbulb used to have is killing me with this version of the UI; even blue-grey on the icon seems a bit too similar compared to the warm/cool dichotomy it used to have.

Autodesk provided me a short PM reply that an Update addressing this Visibility/Contrast Issue is coming soon.

I'm a little worried about the wording using Contrast which, in my books, may imply them only darkening/lightening one or the other Icon whereas I'd really prefer a change in color between the two visibility states.

I guess we'll see how it goes...

Well thanks for that update, now i have it. They really just chose a different gray-to-gray contrast. Holy **** how [...].

It really feels like they hired a new UI designer who needed to proof him/herself by pushing new an "real great" ideas.

Man, the UI was fine!! (The new one with the old icons)

No one i spoke to, had anything good to say about this change.  Sorry.

- Can anyone tell me why the selections in the icons are now green? They arent. They are blue. Actually the old icons were blue. As if there was a reason for it...

- Can you tell me why the sketch-icon in the toolbar looks fundamentally different from the icon in the timeline? As if the toolbar icon wouldnt scale down well because it has this "nice drawing" inside now...

So if there is a scalability issue, does anyone think an icon drawn larger, should have more detail or should show something different? Is that really helping to find the right icon faster or does it just look nicer if you consciously look at it? (Hint: i dont want to consciously look at icons - if i need to, that is a design fail!)

There are many more of those inconsistencies.

I personally feel that the new icons only add confusion. I think any icon on its own may be fine (except the obvious inconsistencies) since they stick out. But now all icons stick out. THAT DOES NOT HELP. It is colorful, but useless. And honestly i actually want to concentrate on my design. Not the toolbar.

Please, dev-team, consider ego-tripping on features and especially bug-fixing, not redesigning stuff that wasnt even broken. Or you know what, i will say this: Fusion-Team, please tell us HOW exactly the old icons were actually broken and got pushed to the top of priorities, then maybe we see the reason behind it and outrage will stop.

And please dont use this marketing bull**** speech about how it looks more "modern" now.

If "modern" means that is is high contrast where i dont need constrast and low contrast (light bulbs!??) where i would need high contrast (due to icon size in the browser tree) then PLEASE STOP.  No actually, dont stop.

FULL REVERSE.

I wish you could at least undo the update so you can learn all the new layout when you are ready to and not be stuck relearning everything right when you are in a crunch for time to make something. Very frustrating

shiner500, you can switch back to the old toolbar UI in your preferences (for a limited time, until they make the updates permanent).

there's a checkbox that says "use old toolbar UI"

As a digital product designer by day, i was surprised by the decision to make all the icons more indistinguishable (note: this does not mean uniformity is bad).

This is like making all the traffic lights the same color, and making drivers rely on the positions of the lights to read them. We all know how that'll end.

Also, the 'Component', and 'Body' icons are also not distinguishable for me at a glance. Would wish they're given some color also. 🙂

P.S. Having that said, i love to use fusion, and was able to learn it myself because of overall simplicity.

I got sick of waiting for the fix, if anyone's interested I have figured out where the visibility icons are located.

Just cut and past whatever icon you would like in here and rename it the same as the originals, or you could open it in paint and change the color of the eye.

ok I just edited the two 16px icons below in the following folder:

▸ ⁨Library⁩ ▸ ⁨Application Support⁩ ▸ ⁨Autodesk⁩ ▸ ⁨webdeploy⁩ ▸ ⁨production⁩ ▸ ⁨26093de3733e2b21e904a96c580f0fe30d66f465⁩ ▸ ⁨Libraries⁩ ▸ ⁨Neutron⁩ ▸ ⁨Neutron⁩ ▸ ⁨UI⁩ ▸ ⁨Base⁩ ▸ ⁨Resources⁩ ▸ ⁨Browser⁩ ▸ ⁨Eye⁩

these are good enough for me at this point to differentiate the two, but they could be done better.

judging by the folder structure and other folders present, it seems like they're working on a dark UI version too- so i trust that they'll come up with a better solution once they roll that option into the UI.

you can do a real-time eye exam too when editing. just save in your editing program and turn on/off the item in the browser and the program will update the icons instantly, so no need to shut down or restart the program either.

here's a free eye exam with the new icons above

You can restore the older icons too if you have a backup of them by replacing the Resources folder in Drive:\Users\You\AppData\local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\[long number]\Fusion\UI\FusionUI\

I have the old icons but I don't know of a way to share them that would be appropriate here. The old icons are much more readable.

I would like to leave this here :

New icons blur test.png

Both sets of icons had the same level of blur applied. The old icons retain their distinctive features despite the blur, but not the new ones. The old icons are much easier to read.

Went the same way @Careless_ went in terms of the color pallet but instead of just recoloring the originals like I did in my opening post I went and parametrically build them in Fusion 360 followed by a little Photoshop CC coloring and resizing.
