Make It A 100% Browser Based Cloud Application

Make It A 100% Browser Based Cloud Application

Implement all features including community addons to work without the need to download or install anything. That is how OnShape works including the addons. Of course there will be some users who will want the option to work offline so that should not be removed. Instead the offline feature should be an option not a requirement when signing up with Fusion 360.

It's already in beta testing.

I'm actually ambivilant about this.. if it works then the app becomes redundant (/ actually a liability), and, if not, then they've got two different code bases with different feature sets to maintain and keep synced (unless they're doing something like VNC which seems like a very bad idea)

In any case it is impossible to do, because not everywhere there is an Internet connection with a good and stable relationship!

Then how to design?

That Fusion can work locally is a big plus in front of Onshape.

If designing in the browser is optional, then it's good, with a good connection you can design on IOS and Android devices. But tablet and phone at this stage of development is not able to fully replace the computer or laptop.

Professionally and conveniently now you can work only on computer or laptop, so no need to spoil the product now.

If fusion would not be the cache, then the work would have been impossible when the network drops. It is a fact.

It can work offline, which is extremely important!

I agree that in the browser to work is very convenient, but strategically it means to infringe a product in its functionality, but also to bury this wonderful CAD at the very beginning of its development.

It's not the thoughts of a conservative, but it is the voice of common sense.

There should be flexibility: if you kill the app on the desktop, you're limited, you won't be able to work without Internet, but if the application on the desktop will remain and in the browser all will work also, be able to save files locally to sync with the cloud, then it would be a good addition to the existing concept of Fusion 360, and people will be able to choose what they are most convenient.

Hello, as mentioned below in the comments, we are working on our browser client solution.

Few points to call out...

  • This will be an access option, and not a replacement for any of the Fusion tools that you are using today.
  • We do have Project Leopard and will be expanding participation later this year.

Thanks and feel free to reach out to me with further questions/feedback,

Daniel

I absolutely agree.  I am a tech teacher in Waterloo Ontario.  My issue is hardware.  This coming September every grade 9 student is getting a Chromebook when they enter high school.  That means that dollars for higher end desktop machines is drying up.  I am currently using Solidedge for 3d work and MasterCAM for 2d work and toolpath generation.  We are being migrated to inventor which is fine, but I have a very limited computer resources.  So I am looking to maximize the use of the chromebooks.  I have already investigated TinkerCad. (I haven't spent a great deal of time with it yet, and perhaps I am too used to building things in the way solidedge does it.  So far I am not impressed)  I found a Youtube review of Fusion 360 and its capabilities and shouted "Yes this is what I want", only to find that it is not cloud based and I still need my aging desktops to run it.

Please consider making this available like TinkerCad is.  I'll get the kids to create accounts and away we go.  Autodesk disciples for life!
