Improve Drawing export options

Improve Drawing export options

Drawings seriously needs:

1. basic DXF export

2. Usable PDF export with clean path and not that path salad Fusion Drawing/Autocad creates

3. Maybe a DWG without the view links jusy an old and basic DWG that is more compatible

Because:

DWG - Uses the Autocad drawing views hardly any other software I tested uses (incl. Rhino and Alias)

PDF - The path the PDF exporter creates are utterly nonsense and chaotic so you cannot use it for technical illustration or saving from AI as DXF or DWG

So both option already have some major issues, the DWG locks you into Autocad and the PDF export you can use for handouts and thats it.

If a place does not use Autocad you can throw the Fusion DWG into the trash can. If you are on windows you could try and download 470MB for DWV Viewer which unpacks into 1.2 GB to view and edit DWGs (seriously?) but this is only Win not Mac.

Currently I would have to export all the models as step and then do the drawings in a different application where I can get either

the CNC lines I need (uses line and arc representation) or the NURBS to Bezier spline export I can use for technical illustration in Illustrator.

I feel like my support probably works against you here but seconded.

SVG would be great too but I'd be happy with clean PDF

yeah they could or should merge those two ideas. they are the same

I totally agree. I have tried several times to use the export to PDF function for things like user instructions. You can see from this example what a fantastic jobs the PDF export currently does. As you have said, unusable.

Yeah I dont even know why AD included those export options when the result is so terrible.

I'd like to see SVG export

Yes.

Better 2DDrawing export options are required. At least as effective as the Create-DXF-from-sketch ability.

1. A basic, reliable 2D DWG output that can be easily read or opened by graphics apps such as Illustrator

2. Or DXF output for the same purpose

3. Or PDF with hairline line thickness

I have come to a dead end trying to export a scalable drawing to Illustrator to use as an artwork underlay.

+1 I wanted to export a DXF to use in another program!

I posted a different Idea but then I found this thread.

Here are the options I would like to see in the DWG export from Drawings:

Right now, drawings exported as DWG can only be edited in the latest version of AutoCAD, in order to be opened in other apps that support DWG they have to be converted, an option is to use DWG TrueView, but that requires an extra step and it's only available on Windows.

The problem with the generated DWGs is that they use viewports and proxy graphics/objects/elements.

I think it would be useful to have a dialog for this export function, with teh following options:

* Choose the DWG version

* remove/explode proxy objects (this would convert proxy objects to regular elements like lines and arcs that can be manipulated)

* Export as a simple 2D drawing in Model Space

DXF export from drawing would be nice.

i second everyone who says that DXF export is needed. It really is needed very badly. I really hope that atleast dxf export is taken out of the "future consideration" tag and taken into development

Copy of my text from different IDEA, but it is also for this one:

This exports really needs to be solved. We got several customers that uses ZWCAD, DraftSight and similiar programs. Right now they can't open DWG drawing from Fusion because it's a mess.. The process right now is that we need to export it as DWG, then in DWG TrueView export it to DWF and then send it to them. Totall waste of time. 😞

I totally agree. Dxf export of a drawing is a must have. I hope they can add this feature soon.

Please add the ability to export a drawing as dxf. Currently it is only possible to export sketches as dxf.

For us it is the easyest way to generate a dxf directly from drawing because we are sure it is the latest version of the dxf and we don't need to play around with projected lines in sketches to export the dxf.

Yes .dxf output is vital to our operation, please add this option!!!! Our customers require dxf drawings that are compatable with other software ei. solidworks

We are a small job shop and it seems each of our customers use a different software package. From Bobcad 17 to catia to pro-e crow. Sending blueprints back and forth is just daily business.
Please add .dxf export.
Thanks

Totally agree that as I am trying to switch over to Fusion 360 replacing a couple of other softwares with this having at least the option for drawings to be exported as a .dxf file is a must, and a huge limitation coming from someone that is in the middle of testing and deciding whether fusion is right for our shop or not.  .dxf is a huge part of the CAD and CAM world still for many.

Agree with the DXF export, a customer notified me of this recently, as they need to save DXF for their wood router. This will be a similar issue for other users, exporting data to feed into machines, as DXF is a common format. The customer is aware they can export individual sketches from the model, but this would be time consuming for a more complex part. Therefore a direct DXF export form the drawing would make life easier!
