Improve Cloud Performance suggestion

Improve Cloud Performance suggestion

I guess I'm one of the few people who love the Cloud solution and I've read many cries about it. I deduced that one of the way Autodesk can solve some of the issues is to have a local buffer before uploading to the cloud. Right now a lot of things (creating new file, uploading new file) will upload to the Autodesk server straight away which on certain days can be quite slow.

By having a local buffer, the user is able to work on their project straight away without having to wait and this will give a much more enjoyable experience. While it's slowly uploading to the server, for the user who's working on the file (the user is able to see some sort of notification showing that there's background upload files on going) and on the user who's just viewing the file (they'll receive a notification mentioning that a new version is being uploaded and it's recommended to "refresh" the current view file once the upload is complete).

So my idea isn't asking for too much, just to add some sort of upload buffer so for days when Fusion server is slower then usual, it'll not affect the user productivity and avoid user frustration.

This is a very good idea. It is how GrabCAD Workbench works. Work locally and then sync with the cloud. Other collaborators are notified and can then sync their local drives with the cloud manually or automatically.

Just to be clear / in case there is any confusion, I don't hate the cloud at all.

I hate that there is a dogmatic, knee-jerk response of «it must be cloud based» when suggestions like this (which is really just having it work locally and then background sync like Keynote) come up.

Personally, I'm agnostic about the technical side and I only really care about the user experience.

It's great that the cloud is there to sync and enable collaboration, but it shouldn't get in the way. If I'm importing a ~45k file, I shouldn't have to wait ~10 minutes for it to upload (on my >10Mbps uplink ?!?) then download again before I can use it.

I'd love it if everything worked perfectly locally, but I don't even mind the cloud being in the middle if performance were reasonable and there were a reasonable assurance that there won't be any data loss.

@roambotics_scott @Anonymous so if you liked the idea, why did you not vote for it ?

I just did but I'm lukewarm on the particulars (and I'm really not a believer in the voting system here)

Just new to the forum so I am unfamiliar with all the functions. I will select Vote.

Yeah, I am not relly a fan of it either as it seem that simple ideas get easy votes but productivity details such as chain select in a sketch ret archived becasue there are too many noobs on the Forum that have not had to use CAD productively.

But at the moment it's the only tool we have and we better use it!

Yeah agreed and agreed.

It's definitely not the right way to do things but we have to live in the world we inhabit not the one we'd hope for.

@roambotics_scott

Hi

Thanks for the dicussion and suggesting, just wonder what's your case "If I'm importing a ~45k file, I shouldn't have to wait ~10 minutes for it to upload".

It seems that you imported some other CAD file, right? if so,what's the file type?

If you still ecounter the import issue, would you please run the Diagnostic Logs command under help and send the logs directly to me at shi.li@autodesk.com

Thanks

Clark
