Have the option to Enter a dimension Name when entering dimensions

AS it is now, it is impossible to enter a dimension name while entering a dimension in Sketch mode. To do so you must go to the Change Parameters Box in the User Interface.

It would be nice while entering a dimension to have an option in the dimension box to enter the Dimension Name instead of just assigning a dX value to the Parameters.

It is much easier to assign a Name to a dimension while entering it than going back later to the Change Parameters Box.  It is just common sense and a much easier work flow!

It would save a tremendous amount of work and time as it is difficult at times to match the assigned dX dimension to the ones you would like to Name when you have multiple dX dimensions. Going back and forward to the Change Parameters Box to enter all the Names is time consuming and at times naming errors occur while trying to match a Name to the dX.

I believe that adding this simple addition to the Dimension Box to assign the Name as you enter a dimension would be a great time saver for most users and a great functional addition to Fusion360.  As you enter the Name in the dimension box it would assign it directly to the Parameters Box, thus saving time and eliminating possible errors.

Hope most of you will find this addition a valuable one so that the development team will consider it.

Thanks,

Isaac

Believe this is essentially a duplicate of an Accepted request from 2014.

I appreciate the info.

I was aware that years ago it was mentioned but as of today nothing has been done.

I would like to see if we can get enough votes to get the team's interest in resurrecting this function and adding it to Fusion360.

It is really a MUST HAVE for those that have many dimensions and sketches.  I still do not understand why that feature was not integrated since the inception of F360.

Thanks,

IK

Completely agree, Isaac - I up voted it as well.  I just hoped that any AD staff reading this might "fast-track" it since it has previously been reviewed and approved even though it had fewer upvotes than it does now.

Would love to see this change sooner than later!

I agree also Isaac.  The Parameter Table has a lot of potential to become an great feature.  There are other additional ideas to incorporate as well   https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-ideastation-request-a/parameter-change-dimension-highlight...

could be another field in the entry, that is selected last when tabbing, so if you dont want to use it, it does not get in the way

What I suggested is what you are thinking.  I would like another box that comes up  as it is selected with a checkbox.  I prefer this method to the manner that you define names in INVENTOR.

It is much easier to enter a dimension and afterwards select the checkbox that pops up a box to assign the Name.

I would also like whenever you edit a dimension and you have entered a formula, for the formula to remain in the box, not the solution.  It is important to track formulas too.  As it is, the formula disappears and you only see the solution to the formula. NOT GOOD!!!!

I hope the development team reads all these comments and implements them ASAP.  It would be a great addition! IMO

Dimensions do keep the formula if you use other dimensions in the formula. Not sure if you enter straight math.

@chrisYBGLU ;

YOu are right about the formulas. Don't know what I was thinking Smiley Indifferent  Too many things in my mind.  My istake!!!!

GREAT idea!

Why not just enter parameter name, if applicable, instead of an extra box:

Length=250mm

Becomes red if name is already set. An equal sign instead of tabbing between boxes gives exact same number of key presses and unclutters the dialogue.

Just for information, top solid, the worst cad software ever (by far, really far), has this capacity. (name)=(value) and a parameter is created at the indicated value, it is useful for designing furnitures (shelves space etc...)

So i still wait for that in f360.
