Extracting Curve layout - Auto-update Surface when curve is modified - Timeline

Extracting Curve layout - Auto-update Surface when curve is modified - Timeline

Hi Folks

here is another video showing how you can extract edges from surfaces in Rhino and continue working with it. The video is based on the application of the curve network command but shows a lot of curve workflow.

Having a timeline now in Fusion I wish there would be a way to make surfaces update as well when curves are changed.

Hi Claas,

Many thanks for posting this, and for the video, this is very helpful.

I think the workflow you are describing should be supported once we add the Patch tools to the Parametric environment. The problem at the moment is that you need to create a Base Feature to add surface geometry to a parametric design. Geometry created inside a Base Feature will not be 'linked' to its input sketches (regardless of whether or not those sketches were created in the Parametric timeline environment). This is why the surfaces won't update to changes in the sketches. The workflow you demonstrate should already be supported for solid geometry (if you're finding it's not, let us know). I believe adding this support for the Patch tools should enable the same capability for surface geometry (although if I’ve misunderstood this, let me know!).

For this kind of workflow in general, there’s also probably more we could do in Fusion 360, for example:

  • Parametric-compatible Loft: I believe this is being worked on.
  • Surfacing from a curve network: Thanks for submitting this suggestion, we’re taking a look into this.
  • Curve creation tools: Project-to-surface is getting a lot of kudos! But also be sure to let us know about what other important tools you feel we’re missing (e.g. blend curves). The team have lots of ideas, but our goal is to put development effort into the features that are most useful to our users, so having a highly-ranked IdeaStation submission is very powerful in getting things implemented.

And if you have any other ideas for curve/surfacing tools, IdeaStation submissions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your time to submit these, and rest assured these are getting our attention!

Cheers,

Jake

Great to hear that there are plans for making the sketch linked to the base feature at one point.

I like the idea and function of the idea station but I am not sure if it is providing a biased or incomplete picture.

There are two user types using Fusion:

Engineers who do work like Inventor or SolidWorks and designers that work like in Alias.

Both think and value differently. So I am curious if the idea station could be biased.

For most of the features you mentioned I think I put down already some ideas but I am not sure if I should submit more specific or bump the idea. With time ideas accumulate maybe people over look them?
