colors in DXF Files

colors in DXF Files

It is very nice to have the option to import dxf Files in fusion. I guess many of us that work with files they get sent from other people would like to have displayed the different colors in imported dxf files. It does not matter what color or layer your line has got, once it is imported in fusion it is all black.

Hi Daniel, thans for your answer!

Although I already used the dxf insert menu, no colors are displayed. Did you have success?

no but I just use the one layer per sketch bit that is not as good as colours, they would added it at some stage of you can get enough votes

One of the biggest drawbacks of Fusion360 form a manufacturing stand point currently is the lack of 2D saviness of Fusion. As CAM gets better and better you would basically want to use only Fusion360. But then it really sucks when it comes to working with 2D. The Sketch feature is good enough as a 3D-Design support tool but Handling 2D-DXF or create more complex drawings is a pain. Also the performance just isn't good when importing DXF.

Hi,

one more disadvantage of non-colored dxf contours: Although Fusion is made for Solid modeling, sometimes it is easier to just take contours to mill from plate material. As the color of dxf contours is the same blue as the color of all toolpaths, it is hard to check the tool compensation and make difference between lines/ toolpath. particularly when you have 100 contours+      🙂

Status changed to: Future Consideration

@Anonymous,

Thank you for your idea, this is getting changed to future consideration.  We have a list of improvements that are in our backlog to improve dxf export including but not limited to saving to previous version, adding colors and assigning layers.  Right now we are exploring the customer experience with the access options we have.

Cheers,

Mike Prom

Any updates on fusion's capability to export different coloured lines in dxf? I've just picked up fusion and am just learning it after using inventor previously. In Inventor I am able to export from a flat pattern for sheetmetal parts and change bend lines to red for etching however can't edit the dxf and make them only 50mm in from each end. any help would be appreciated.
