First upload your part using the data panel in Fusion, this will translate the part to a Fusion design.
Now start a new empty design and insert the translated part from the Data panel, you can just drag and drop.
If the external\imported part needs updating right click the translated part in the Data panel and select Import New Version, when the import is complete you will get a warning in the file using the import, just update and you will have the new version.
Here's an example. The 3 stp files in the data panel are imported as linked parts that drive the cavities in the assembly. Updating the stp file with Import New Version updates the assembly.
Unfortunately this idea did not get the support of the community and as such we will not be pursuing it. Please feel free to rework and resubmit this one down the road. Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea.
