Allow paste into Fusion 360 password field

Allow paste into Fusion 360 password field

If you are using a password manager to maintain complex passwords for all of your different accounts, it is annoying to deal with the fact that the Fusion 360 application will not allow the user to paste their password in when logging into it.

Totally agreed. This is a major security hole (ironically / presumably done intentionally under the guise of «improving security»)

Is this something that changed recently? I use LastPass and have been copying and pasting my password since day 1.

The app has kept me logged in recently but pasting has never worked for me [in OS X] as far back as I can recall

Interesting. I haven't tried Fusion on my Macbook (it's really wimpy) in quite some time but I'm pretty confident that I did use copy and paste on it as well. Did you try both cmd+v and ctrl+v (or maybe right click and paste)? I don't remember which worked but some ported apps don't always fully comply with the mac way of doing stuff.

Yeah I just signed out and confirmed this.

Paste works in the email field (though they're apparently using some kind of weird non-standared widget that won't allow select all).

Definitely doesn't work in any form in the password field and there is no support for Keychain independent of paste working.

I think the issue is with the support of COPY being able to steal passwords. Maybe there is a method for letting PASTE work, but disabling COPY.

You could also let users of 2 step verification use the copy/paste function for the login/password since they still have to type in a unique expiring code. Support of LastPass and other password managers is important, and they have APIs to help encrypt this for AutoDesk products.

Disabling copy is fine but even that is silly because how often is someone going to enter their password then step away from their machine ?

Re: paste - lots of people mistakenly think password management systems are bad for security.. it'd not be at all surprising to learn that that was the concern.

This is a bug. We will have this fixed.

Great / thanks !

I can not paste a password on OS X either, and that makes it far less secure. I have to use one I can type from memory rather than a very long randomly generated password...

oh, my current password manager wipes the clipboard in about a minute, so thats not an issue.

Yeah this is one of those things people do thinking they're making things more secure that actually does the opposite

Agree completely.
Less friction with passwords etc tends to equal more secure...

I also use a password manager now (for 12+ years) and now most website passwords are 16-20 charcter random strings, or some variant of

uuidgen | tr A-F  h-z | cut -c 1-20

Except for autodesk - since I have to type it in Every. Single. Time.  Its short, easy to type.  Oh - and since need to type it in, must paste first like in terminal or text edit so I can read and type it in.

Yeah thats a security fail.

Note that browsers also ignore 'autocomplete=off' for password fields.  Let the user decide that, else its too much nanny.

Glad to hear its a bug - look forward to seeing it fixed.

For some reason I cannot upvote this idea. But, please yes, make the password field accepting pasting from my password manager!

@promm if this and keychain / password manager integration aren't obviously necessary, talk with anyone minimally competent in infosec for five minutes and they will be

March 26 this was acknowledged as a bug to be fixed.  Here it is 4 months later and it is still a bug.  Can we please get this fixed?  My password for Autodesk is 27 characters long.

Really wish I could +10 this

Paste works in the password field.

On Win - Ctrl+V

On Mac - RMB -> Paste

We will fix the bug to that keyboard shortcuts and context menus work on both soon, but I wanted to mark this so that everyone knows that they can paste in passwords.

Thanks,

Bankim

Thanks @charegb !

While you're at it, it'd be awesome to bake in Keychain (and whatever the Windows equivalent is) integration 🙂

Not sure why I got kicked out but just had to re-login to F360 and couldn't paste again 😕

Please fix that and add support for Keychain
