Adding Chamfer option to sketch toolbox

Adding Chamfer option to sketch toolbox

I'd like to propose adding the chamfer option to skethcing. I see that we have the ability to add fillets, so I started looking for a way to chamfer a sketch, and found nothing.

This has multiple uses, other than small little corner edge breaks. If you need to draw a corner that has a large angle on it, this tool would be able to do that. Chamfers are not always small edge breaks....

If the concern is "adding one more button" perhaps make a modifier, so if ALT (or some other key) is pressed, pressing Fillet will allow it to chamfer.

Chamfer should have the option of specifying angle as well as length of angle, length of hypotenuse, etc

After further consideration, I'd like to modify my suggestion SLIGHTLY. I don't think the ALT modifier would be the way to go, since it might lead to limited functionality.

Instead, I suggest the following:

The text of the "Fillet" button is changed to Fillet/Chamfer

Clicking on it brings up a dialog box.

Two radio buttons, one for fillet and one for Chamfer.

Clicking either one will provide appropriate fields to fill in needed info.

For Fillet, you will have the option of defining radius size, (and other info if needed?)

For Chamfer, you will get a dialog box that has fields for: Chamfer size, Chamfer angle, how the chamfer size is being defined, etc

OR..........

Pressing ALT and clicking on the fillet/chamfer button automatically selects the appropriate radio button and grants you the required fields to fill in

Status changed to: Future Consideration

@LibertyMachine,

Thank you for your idea.  Although it is a great idea, the amount of time it will be before we get to it is the reason why the idea is being changed to Future Consideration.  When work gets started the idea will be changed to Accepted.

Thank you,
