The trace function in the 2D CAM tab is great! It could be better though by adding the ramp and entry position functions available in many of your other toolpaths. This would really amp up the functionality of 2D trace.
For 2d you can use 2d profile and turn compensation off. Note you need to use a taper mill. If you can't figure it out start a thread in the CAM forum and tag me in, can't attach files to the ideastation so can't help more here.
I'm milling 3d profiles using the trace function with sideways compensation and multiple depths. Like profile but on a full 3 axis path. I want trace to be able to ramp into the stock like the profile path can and to be able to select the entry/exit position.
