can not edit alignment

ok, have a center line alignment, i can not delete nodes . . .. and the street moved.

the alignment is not on a locked layer, the alignment is not locked and editing does not get this alignment anywhere near it should be.

any ideals?

besides start over?  and then find the tech that created this problem . . . .

thanks

in LDD i would have been done hours ago.  .. .

civl 3d has MAJOR glitches in the program, and it is the STANDARD?????

Please look into making this a better cad program.

Service packs installed? Save, close and reopen. Still have issues with it?

restarted civil3d, and have audited the drawing, base files and service packs were installed months ago.

still not working. . . .

my best guess - the alignment was laid out using the tangent and radii set.

why ?

i don't know why, other then the usual let person X do this, (even though person X does not understand aligments, or roadway design)

ok, so how to kill the tangent - radii setup?  with out stating over?

thanks

I've noticed this on occasion when creating alignments by object - it will lock the vertices - I believe you can go into the geometry editor and unlock them. (Don't quote me on that)

ok, already did that.  same as before.

MY  SOLUTION:

1. select the alignment

2. using the geometric editor - break the alignment (about 50+ feete from the beginning)

3. using the break option - delete all but the first 50+ feet of the alignment

4. using the geometric editor - re-draw the alignment (where you want it)

best part - since you kept part of the original alignment - the profile will regenerate. (some savings)

problems - you have to work on the corridor

thank you AutoDesk and Civl3d for being so UN-CIVIL.

this just hit my inbox . . . .

Hello nonbeard13,

You have received a private message in the Autodesk Community.

From: gchakri

Subject: Unable to edit alignment...

Body:

Hi,

If you don't can you please email me that alignment dwg you couldn't edit. You can strip out all other objects except for that alignment in a copied dwg so i can test it. AFAIK there shouldn't be a reason why you couldn't edit it with in the defined constraints.

Thanks

Chakri (chakri dot gavini at autodesk dor com)

anybody ever get one of these?

yes it is someone from AutoDesk, and the private email used to contact me does not allow you to attach anything.

sort of like AutoDesk used the same civil3d programers for the email. LOLS

I agree with your statment - i have a negative view of Civil3d,

as the industry cad standard, used world wide .

it shoud be failsafe.  and yes that is a LOT to ask from a computer program,

considering the different computer systems, components, users, training, and manuals

being very fair, i wrote so many "how to's" for LDD at two engineering companiesm

and had a non-cad user proof them and then test them.

takes a while to get it right - but the end result is GOLDEN.

civil3d should be so much better,

and not need a billion styles to make it look right.

LDD and autocad were useable right out of the box,

you really cannot do that with Civil3D, everything has to be setup and

so much is not clearly documented.  WHY?

manuals that are printed, so you can read the manual and learn. . . . .

this is getting very long. and i am very tired of hearing about styles.

too may companies throw us under the bus and then wonder why production dies.

so, i have to adapt and keep learning on my time. ,.. . . . ..

civil3d was ment to be so much better than LDD, really?

dynamic is ok, but you have to assign the work to the person who understands how to make the program work correctly.

otherwise, you have trash and more problems than solutions.

train empolyees or wish you had; the owners never understand that.

thank you, Jay for correcting my poor attitude.

Charles,

Chakri gave you his e-mail address. Tell me again why you couldn't take him up on his kind offer?

Dave:

i was going to respond to the email Chakri sent to me - the problem was the Private AutoDesk email does not allow attachments. LOLS

so i did sent the drawing to his email, after i did a serious cleanup of the drawings, layers, fonts, and other trash.

standards. . . .  what are they and why are they needed. . . . .never ending story.

i have not heard back from Chakri, just got started today.

I have an alignment i can't edit also.  C3D 2016.  All of the commands on the Alignment Editor - Alignment Layout Tools toolbar are ghosted and cannot be used. Nothing is locked.  Any help? It is this drawing only.  In a new drawing, i create an alignment and it is able to be edited.  It has a profile created from it.  THe update selection in profile properties is blank and will not populate anything.  It must be a setting somewhere.

as you were.  Closed and reopened and Voila! editor options are alive.

A solution that worked for me was to copy the alignment. After the copy the alignment was able to be modified, then just delete the copied alignment.

I had this same issue, I then realize that the alignment was being referenced in from another drawing, SO.. after i promoted it I was able to use the grips to edit the geometry. This is why its a good practice to keep things like that in a seperate DWG
