Inventor iPart to Plant 3D Spec Catalog

Inventor iPart to Plant 3D Spec Catalog

Hello,

Idea is simple

Import Autodesk Inventor iPart family to AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor.

We can create new parametric model in Inventor iParts functionality (Valve, Support, Fitting etc.) and export it to Plant 3D catalog or Catalog Builder (we can add this like Python script)

In my role I work with or engineer all vendor software, I find that Autodesk integration is one of the hardiest to work with. Having to translate between products to use models in other Autodesk products is disappointing. They need to catch up with other vendors, before their advantage is lost.

Would remove a major headache in Plant 3D, to be able to drive/create our catalogs via Inventor and even add new components in without having to code the parts in python.

The amount of time to have Plant 3D working is a real negative. If you work in the parameters support OOTB, then Plant 3D is simple and perfect. Once you step out of those parameters, headaches start, the steps required to expand the parameters.., is time consuming and/or requires a select skillset.

If a survey was done on Plant 3D user, I suspect that the majority are power inventor users, very little are python user.

Autodesk traditional and and it makes sense to cater for the majority of users.

I believe this integration would be a no brainer, and possible completed years ago.

I agree, it will be most helpful to have a direct import / export function between Inventor and Plant 3D. One where you can create the part model in Inventor, assign nozzles and other relevant P3D attributes, and then export it with all the attributes recognised in Plant. Might even be something that uses IFC format but that would require Inventor to have that as an export function and P3D to have it as an import function.
