SP1 for 2016 is online: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-3ds-max-2016...
EXT1 for Max 2016 is also available (from the Subscriptions Site).
Steve Curley posted this already, but it's closed... So here please discuss about SP1 and EXT1...
Info about EXT1 are here:
http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/max/3ds-max-2016-extension-1
http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/chris/max-creation-graph-updates-in-3ds-max-2016-extension-1
The new TextPlus looks nice:
But why add bevel here and not enhance the existing bevel modifier?
Downloading the EXT1 pack is complicated as describet here: http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/maxstation/n282-3ds-max-2016-extension-1-is-available-from-autodesk-a...
Just go to https://accounts-subs.autodesk.com/sp/servlet/download/item?siteID=11564774&id=24668340 login and download the 200MB file...
is there a reason why it is no availibal via the aplication manager? - i can't see it there...
Don't know. After the lates bugs, i deinstall the App-Manager... I think it's generally not very helpful.
And i think we all should get a simple mail, if a new service pack / extension pack is available! So vote here: http://3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com/forums/76763-small-feature-requests/suggestions/2238474-mail-3dsm...
I have just installed both updates with the application manager. Probably you will need to update the available updates, right click, check now. And it took 4 minutes to update.
Well in case others go same path, be wary of this. Even though quoting the 2016 Ext 1 Release notes:
When I installed just Ext 1, there was a startup error about a GameExporter.DLU. Later, when I downloaded the SP1 separately, I think I know the problem: the file for Ext 1 ( 3dsMax_2016Extension.msi ) is 1.82 MB. Apparently it includes TARDIS compression because the SP1 is 198 MB.
Mayhaps I go back and redo this and it get fixed. And mayhaps someone needs to edit/clarify the Ext 1 Release Notes?

I've edited the sticky with this info and will leave it there until either the readme is changed or the SP is actually included with the EXT.
apparently the one that comes from autodesk account or the app manager does not come with SP1 but if you download the extention from the product enhancements page it does come with SP 1
so the read me is sort of right & wrong

Already reported this to the proper channels but anyway:
3dsmax2016 with lot of scene objects (11k) and Scene Explorer open is slow if 'Auto-expand to Selection' is checked.
If you uncheck this option in SceneExplorer, performance is compareable to the 2015 release.
This wasn`t catched in SP1.

No, i get the freeze without 'Auto-expand to Selection' is checked. See also:
There is no whatsover any improvement in the Layer Manager with this update.
I thought there was some sort of fixes regarding this problem.
Extremely instable and causing lot of issues.
As a professional user I am wondering why keep making changes on things that previously where working fine.
Totallly wrong system of approach.

Yeah I had the same problem, ext first then SP1 which solved it. --ds
I'm having an issue getting the Stingray tab in 3ds Max to show up. I've installed the extension 1 from the free student download page here: http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/3ds-max-extension, and it states that service pack 1 is installed along with.
The Game exporter tab appears, but no Stingray. Any ideas on where I went wrong?
