What´s New - VRED 2019 Design & Professional

Dear VRED Users,

 

We´d like to inform you that VRED 2019 Design & Professional was just released and is ready to install through Autodesk Desktop App and available in your Autodesk Account.

 

Here is a quick overview of "What´s new" and "What has changed":

 

VR at every Designer`s Desk

 

  • VRED Design now has VR viewing capabilities and supports HTC Vive and Oculus Riftincluding VR Hand/Controller representation. Due to VR scenarios are usually being highly customized with Python and VRED Design only having Python execution capabilities, this feature is limited to view only mode, if your scene was not previously prepared in VRED Professional.
  • With the new VR capabilities, VRED Design now also supports Stereo SLI.

 

File Type Specific Import Options

 

  • File Import was completely re-designed. Menu entries have been re-arranged to work more intuitively and similar to other Autodesk Products. File > Open now supports only VRED-specific file formats like .vpb, .vpe, and .vpf.
  • The Add File menu entry was removed and its functionality is now covered by the new File Type Specific Import Dialog. Now it is possible to set individual import options for different file types during one import process. We have introduced a list on the left for batch import and it is possible to Add or Remove files and folders. Only available file options are shown on the right for the file formats that have been added to the import list.
  • We added an Import State Overview to give more reliable results/reports, which are also stored in a Logfile.

Joint & Skin support for FBX files

 

  • VRED 2019 now supports pre-rigged, skinned, and animated Mesh Geometry that is imported using the FBX file format. This simplifies the workflow of importing animated objects, such as characters that use joint deformations.
  • It is possible to visualize the Joint Skeleton and manipulate or animate the object directly inside the 3D Viewport or Transform Module.Joint & Skin Support.png

     

Python Script & HTML5 Editor Improvements

 

  • The Python Script- and HTML5 Editor have a couple of new features. A dark theme with a special coding font, syntax highlighting, and ligatures support provides a better coding experience.
  • We also added Search (CTRL+F), Find & Replace (CTRL+R), GoTo line (CTRL+G) and Auto Complete for VRED Python commands.

Lens Flares

 

  • You can now add artistic Lens Flares as an extension to point- and spotlights or as a non-illuminating element to the scene. This approach allows the placement of flare and ghost effects anywhere in the scene.
  • It is possible to imitate different lens or light types just by creating simple layered elements on top of each other. Presets as an entry point help you to get familiar with the concept of layering different elements and ghost lines. 
  • In the Camera Editor, it is also possible to enable/disable Lens Flares on a global level.image-00195.png

 

Camera Fog

 

  • Cameras now support classic Fog as part of image the processing. It is possible to adjust the Distance- and Height Fog independent from each other. This is a simple effect to add more realism to help someone better understand the distance and scale of objects by fading these in the distance.
  • Some parameters were added that can be animated and are accessible via Python, such as Noise to add irregularities to the Fog.
  • It is also possible to render the Fog an Lens Fares into a separate channel in the Image Processing Renderpass.Aurora_OGL_Fog.png

     

VR Hand Interaction

 

  • When starting the OpenVR or Oculus HMD Mode, you will see pre-posed VR Hands with different gestures, instead of the HTC VIVE and Oculus Touch Controllers.
  • It is possible to interact with HTML5 Content and TouchSensors. Therefore, the collision geometry has to be registered via Python Script (see VRED Examples).Hands.png

     

Shared Views

 

  • Shared Views is providing a quick and easy way of sharing online visualizations, without expertise or special hardware. You can upload a shared view free of any intellectual property. The shared view expires by default after 30 days.
  • When you create a shared view, a pop-up window provides a link to the shared view in the Autodesk Viewer. This makes it easy for you to send the link to your collaborators. Your collaborators do not need an Autodesk product. Collaborators can review and post comments directly in the Autodesk Viewer.

General Improvements

 

  • Oculus SDK 1.19 & OpenVR 1.12 Update
  • 3D sound perception improvements in VR
  • Improved HTML5 rendering performance for WebEngines
  • Additional ACES Colorspace support for Reinhard RGB & Logarithmic RGB Camera Tonemapper
  • Shadow map support for Point- & Spherical Lights in OGL

VRED 2019 Pro seems to be missing from the ADSK Subscription Center to download? All I see is the VRED Cluster installer for Win & Linux. What's going on?

The skeleton integration looks super interesting!

Is there a more in depth documentation how to use it? Is it accessible via python?
