Vred Professional 2026 PBR Metallic Workflow

Dear all,

I am just testing Vred2026 to check if there is a shader supporting PBR Metallic workflow textures. I still can not find a solution (except the Substance material, but this is complicated for our workflow).

Any idea how to work with the PBR maps BaseColor, Metallic, Roughness, Ambient Occlusion, Displacement and normals? Is the only solution to convert these maps to Specular Glossiness workflow maps?

Thank you in advance.

Best,

Stefan

I’m not so much into shaders but VRED also offers MaterialX and MDL. For Substance you can also built an SBSAR with empty texture slots you expose and parameters you want to influence and load the textures in VRED like you would do with a VRED Material. Store, share reuse that one empty Substance Material in the asset manager and fill load your textures on demand in VRED.

Hi Seiferp,

thanks a lo! Unfortunately  we are not working with Substance. Do you see a chance to send us an empty Substance material for AmbientOcclusion, BaseColor, Displacement, Metallic, Normal und Roughness, please?
That woul be very nice!

Stefan

@stefanlampe it´s not trivial but I´ll give it a try! Do you have a set of the mentioned textures for me to test?

Hi @stefanlampe,

I built an empty Substance metallic roughness PBR which is kind of imitating the VRED plastic with a few extra options to manipulate the incoming texture. Especially adjusting the low/high levels for the roughness texture and inverting the opacity texture seams to be helpful sometimes. Material attached. Let me know what you think.

Hi Pascal,

wow, very cool. Thank you very much. Sorry for my late reply. I am laying down with a fever.
I will check you file this weekend. Is there a chance to help you with something as a thank you?

No problem. There might be one downside with this approach. The maximum texture output size you can set in a Substance material is 8K. Of course you can load any texture size, but all textures are cropped to the output you set which is max. 8K. Another thing I don´t like in my example, but looks like I can´t influence this, is the position of the "Use Texture" or "Filepath" entry in the UI. I would like to change the order but it remains on top of each frame unfortunately.
