VRED Animation Help

Hello everyone,

I have produced an animation which explodes our product apart, with camera animations which transition between different views.

I did this using the clipmaker and camera editor because I only have the basic VRED version.

My question is: how do I create a turntable animation and add it to the start of the animation? It would be good if I could create it as a block and place it in the clipmaker timeline.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You should just be able to create the turntable anim clip and move all the other clips forward in time in the Clip Editor.

What I usually do is group the node I plan to animate several times to itself.  For example, my main car node will have a "car postition" node under it and a "car drive" node, etc.  That allows you to control movements more precisely for the same object.

If it seems to late for that, you can duplicate a Block in the Curve Editor, delete and set the keys to get another Block you can move into the Clip Editor.  This will give you multiple animations for the same node.

If you haven't, you will have to create Blocks for your camera, too.

I usually create "mini-blocks" (for example a Block containing 4 wheel animations) and them drag them all into a "master-block (for example one that contains the car driving and the camera).

Make sure you choose the intended Clip when you render.

Hi Dawn,

I've only got the basic VRED version so I cannot find the curve editor or timeline (I don't think they are featured in the basic version?)

All I have regarding the turntable animation is this, which is located in the 'Camera Editor' box:

Screengrab.JPG

It seems odd because I can press the play button and get it to animate, but I don't know how to export that animation or add it to the clipmaker??

Thanks for your tips, how do you group the node to itself?

Many Thanks

Lewis

Oh, sorry.  I have Design and Pro, so I'm not sure what is missing in Basic.

Your screengrab is showing that you have turned on what I call "transitions" between saved Viewpoints (the checked box) and if you click on the arrow next to TTAnim, these only work for live presentations.  In order to output the turntable animation, you will have to set keys.

I'm not sure if you have this functionality or not, but try right-clicking on the node in the SC and see if it has the menu for Edit > Anim > Create TT Anim.  That will set keys automatically.  If not, I think you're out of luck bc you need the Curve Editor and Timeline to set keys manually.

At last resort, you can download another version free for 30 days.

One more thing- if you have the Clip Maker, then does it have a box in the upper right corner that says "wizard"?  If so, then you should be able to create animation for objects and materials.  It sets keys for the "as is" states when you click Capture, and figures out what needs to be animated.

I think you're on to something!

I can right click the node in the scenegraph and go "Edit > Anim > Create TT Anim"...

I get this pop up window:

Screengrab2.JPG

But when I click 'Create' it disappears and I don't know where it saves the animation?

 - Any idea where it goes? Smiley Sad

Regarding the 'Wizard' button, yes I do have that... that's the only thing I have where I can animate the parts and camera views.

I just hope I can add the turntable animation to the clipmaker because it's such a smooth rotation which I cannot duplicate by transitioning between separate camera views.

You should be able to create the tt anim through the Wizard and then work with that clip along with your other clips.  I just can't think of how you can find the block your created via the SG without working in that version.

There doesn't seem to be a way of creating a turntable animation by using the 'wizard'...

I'm so close but so far, surely there's a way I can find the TT animation I create through the SG?

I'm going off track a little now, but do you know if there's a way to change the units from frames to seconds in the clipmaker please?

 - It bugs me that I can't see the times of each block, only amount of frames.

To group a node to itself, in the SG menu, Edit > Group Selection (or click on the 3rd icon on the bottom of the SG).

I can't see any way to convert to time instead of frames.  You can change the fps in Prefs > Anim.  There is a forum for idea suggestions here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/vred-ideas/idb-p/2058/tab/most-recent

Hi,

unfortunately the create turntable functionality from the scene graph is not accessible in VRED basic. However, as dawn suggested, you can create an animation with the wizard of the clip maker. Instead of rotating the camera you will need to rotate the scene and the environment material to create a turntable look. Therefore select the object(s) in the scene as well as the environment material in the material editor (e.g. studio), open the wizard and select 'Object and Material'. Select your time range and capture the start state. Now add 360 (degrees) to the z-rotation (ry for y-up scenes) value of your object(s) (you can do this in the transform module) as well as the 360 (degrees) to the environment transformation rz (or ry) of the selected material. Capture end state and your done.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Marcus
