varjo mr - video pass-through material - hole in MR

Hi to all,

I want to make a hole in in a 3d model to see outside.

I've seen that is possible to do it in unreal or unity using a 3d surface that make the shape of the hole with a pass-through material attached.

there is a video in youtube where the user can see the real keyboard with a marker attached.

how can i do it in vred?

i haven't find anything about this material ( or something to script in python ) to make this hole.

Anyone may help me?

Thanks

Davide

Hello,

There is a way to do it using Varjo Lab Tools software and creating/applying Masks.

Thanks Daniel,

I know this solution, but i know that in unity and unreal there is the possibility to make a surface with material with rgba (0,0,0,0) that make a hole and attach this surface to a marker.

In this way this hole is dynamic.

Hi @d.barboni

since version 2023.1, the "Visible in Alpha" (=off) option from the Render Layer module also works in OpenGL, for this MR use case.

Create a layer, add a node (geometry or any parent) from the scenegraph, switch the Visible in Alpha to off, and activate the layer.

https://help.autodesk.com/view/VREDPRODUCTS/2024/ENU/?guid=VRED_Rendering_The_Render_Layer_Dialog_Bo...

Note: Most other options in Render Layer only work in Raytracing.

Kind regards

Sinje
