Smooth Object Visibilty Animation ( Object Fade Out, Fade In )

Help, I cannot animate smooth object visibility in my project. i tried to make a curve and changing the settings whatsoever but it didn't work at all.

I need to animate object visibility from frame 170 to 200 that fading out for around 30 frames. and bring those objects back again later.

Somehow seen on the video i attached, there is no fading out animation from 170 until 190s. and suddenly the object disappear quickly at frame 200.

I need the visibility transition to fade out smoothly.

thanks!

The visibility is a on/off switch, you won´t get anything smooth from it.

Your best option is animate the transparencies of the materials applied to the objects.

The Object visibility is a true/false state without a interpolation between 0 and 1. Like the check boxes in the scene-graph. If you want a fading you have to animate the material > transparency > see through RGB values from 1 to 0.

so that would means we cannot do smooth transition?

even if modifying the script ??

have ideas about modify the script ?

I have the same desire as andyoaryoga. Will you elaborate on animating material transparencies. How can I place key frames on transparency in Auto Cad? Thank you.

Wrong Forum.

For AutoCAD you have to go here

Hi @Anonymous ,

material transparency is the way to go, i agree with the others.

You should make a duplicate of the material. Give it a name so you know its just for this fading. Apply it just to the geometry you want to fade out. Open the curve editor. Select the Animation-Material in the material editor. Now you should have also access to all material properties in the curve editor.

Animate the seeThrough R-G-B values.

I think its the smoothest approach you can get.

I don't like the effect you get with complex geometries though, as the transparencies multiply.

Good luck!

As i have come to the very same problem: are there any changes yet since the last post on 2021? Our customer has big trucks with many different materials where we have to fade out objects as animation. This would take me ages to duplicate every material... i'd love to have the option to animate the visibility detached from the material, just like in c4d with rendertag for example.

thank you in advance

Hi @hoermannNXFJL

VRED still works the same in this regard.

But I think there is a good solution for this:
You have to make the animation once and create an animation block out of this.

Once created, you copy it.

Then you select all materials you want to animate and select your curve-window again. on the right side you should see all the materials selected.

Either you select them all by hand or press Ctrl+A.

Then you insert the copied animation block (Ctrl+V).

Now all materials are animated.

thats a nice idea, but the main problem is not that i have to give every animated object that fade out effect. Will be some work, but thats actually OK for me.

To make it more clear: For example the material "steel" is set on all of those 5000 screws in the truck. The main goal is to show how some electronical devices are removed from the truck and so far I have to give every screw in a sequence i want to remove a seperate material, because else every other screw would fade out as well..

thats why I asked for a solution where i can only fade out flowingly just objects instead whole materials.

As you seem to be very into vred: do you have a solution for that too? 🙂

thank you anyways for the quick response!

Hi @hoermannNXFJL ,

I understand your requirements and attempted to explore an alternative approach. However, either my knowledge isn't sufficient, or it’s simply not feasible in VRED.

Having read your comment, I still recommend following my original method, with a few additional steps:

  1. Select the objects to be animated.
  2. Duplicate the materials of the selected objects.
  3. Apply the animation and materials to the specific objects as described in the original process.
  4. In more recent versions of VRED, you can change values simultaneously across multiple materials. This allows you to keep animated and non-animated materials identical with just a small additional step.

I realize this may not fully meet your expectations and involves a bit more work. Unfortunately, I currently don’t have another solution.

I would love to hear how you ultimately resolved it!
