HDRI dome - How to create my personal environment

Hi All,

Maybe I'm asking something that has been requested in the past, in this case please close my post.

I need to create my personal HDRI image I would apply on the Dome. Could someone give me a tutorial or a path to create:

  • HDRI Image from DSLR camera, shooting of external and internal places
  • Studio environment created by PC where I can set up the lights in terms of position and °K

In your opinion, which is the better way for studio lighting? (lightbox), create a dome with lighting included or create lights directly in VRED?

Hope to receive some feedback from you.

Regards

Matteo

This isn't exactly what your asking for, but this video might give you some clues about how to proceed making your .hdrs.

Studio lighting- if it's for an exterior, I would start out with a studio-type .hdr and use HDR Light Studio to custom-place your highlights.  If it's an interior, you might need to add some fill lights.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the interesting tutorial but unfortunately I do not have that kind of 360° camera, maybe I can use a DSLR with Bracketing functionalities inside.

I'm trying to use HDR Light studio 5 as trial for 15 days but I do not understand (maybe is because my knowledges in this world are not so good) how to place lights exactly where I need on the 3D space, There's the canvas but as you know it twists the lights for the HDRI Map.

I would like to create a simple lightbox with Neon light (D65) as on the attached images but as I told before I'm not able to:

  1. Size the lights dimensions
  2. Positionate the lights on  the "real" 3D Space

I tried to find a complete or a well structured tutorial which could help me with basic tips but seems impossible to find.

Do you know anything about?

Regards

Matteo

Hi Seiferp

This is a great news, I visited Xrite in Switzerland and I saw the TAC7 Scanner and lightbooth in action but I did not think that this kind of environment could be available also in VRED.

I've a question for you, how can I use the color palette we have on the left corner?

Thanks in advance.

Matteo

You're right- there aren't any great tutorials for HDR LS with VRED, but it's pretty basic.

Just make sure you have Light Paint checked on in your Material Editor and Shift + click to place the light reflections where you want them on your model then you can adjust the intensity, color, etc.

Be sure to click on Save Settings before you save your VRED file, or you will lose the work.

For more specific information, the tech support people are pretty good at getting back to you if you ask.

U can use it as a reference for color calibration and tonemapping if you match your rendering with a real one.

You mean that I can use that palette to match a real one I've in my hands?

Thanks for posting that link for HDR environment maps, it's exactly what I'm looking to do and I just happen to know someone who owns one of those Richoh 360 cameras!
