Component Material

Hello, im having a few issues with assigning materials. I was wondering if it was possible to assign materials to individual components rather than to whole nodes/objects/groups? I don't know if i'm missing something but dragging onto the render changes the whole object and dragging the material to the individual surfaces in the scene graph does nothing. I'm using 2018 and the model is from Alias if they are of any relevance. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm pretty new at this. Thanks.

Hello,

the individual surfaces (components) of a Shell node cannot have different materials. A material can only be assigned to a shell.

If you want to have different materials on it, you need to split the Shell into different parts (create separate shells).

I guess you already showed the components in Scenegraph with "Show Components" in the context menu?

You can regroup the components manually by selecting them in the render window, with "Component selection mode" (use drop down of "Selection" icon in top icon bar to switch to component selection, or Shift-middle mouse click in the render window, which opens the selection menu, where you can choose the component selection mode).

Then just select the components in the scene that should belong together, and group them into a new shell with Ctrl-Shift-M. Then assign the material to the new shell.

Best regards
