ObjectDCL is going open source

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi, over the last while you might have know that I have been unable to work on ObjectDCL due to a severe medical condition. For this I must apologize. I have decided that since I cannot put the energy in that it deserves, I am going to post ObjectDCL as an open source project on www.sourceforge.net. Anyone will be able to download the compiled software and anyone will be able to sign in and contribute to its further development. Essentially ObjectDCL will become a community development project.

Thanks everyone, Chad Wanless

My English level is too poor to write my thought, but I think that Michael
has just done it. I hope that you will find a good health quickly.

Chad,

Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the CAD community. Although not a user of your program, I've been hearing enough good things about it. Thanks a lot for your contribution and best wishes to your health.

Hi Chad.
Do you remember how many e-mails I sent you and you sent me to test
ObjectDCL ?
I don't know you personally, but I feel that you are a friend of mine.
I hope that you will solve your problems soon or at least in a not too much
long period.

Thanks for all, because with ObjectDCL I worked very well.

And I think also that

A U T O D E S K m u s t t h a n k y o u

because your software made Autocad more powerful and easy to use.

Thanks again.

Ciao

Get well soon -- I remember seeing ObjectDCL (at AU I believe) and being quite impressed -- making it open source is very generous -- may you have as much generosity come your way.

Wow, just saw this thread.
I have major progs going on ODCL so this is huge.
Chad, if you only knew how much ODCL had done for us, I cannot thank you enough for releasing the code!

I am sorry to hear about your health struggle. I can tell you you have added so much to the Autocad community.
I wish we could do more than just write messages here.

Thanks Chad

Why don't we try to invent something to help Chad (if he needs help) and his
family ?
Why don't try,
who will be able to update the ObjectDCL C++ code,
to insert in the software, an option, a command,
that goes to a web page
where everyone can send a contribution to the author ?

And if here is someone that has a better idea,
this is the moment to expose it.

Chad is giving us something,
and it is right that we have to give something to him.

I hope strongly that these intents will have success.

thanks

Yep, that would be an excellent idea.
I still cant believe how inexpensive he made ODCL to us before. It is the kind of thing that should end the normal day
job he had. Wish I had a product that unique.

Chad,

don't you think autodesk could be interested in an objectdcl which supports AutoCAD 2007 as soon as possible?
They may be able to help you. Charly Crocker, the autodesk map product manager knows the problem. Will you contact him? [email protected]

Chad,

You have made probably the single best contribution to the AutoCAD
programming environment ever made, at least in my humble opinion. Thank you
for your efforts and your generosity. Best of luck to you and my prayers for
a good recovery and good health. I'm sure there will many who will pick up
the torch where you left off for ObjectDCL.

domenico, GREAT idea

Why don't you start a new thread to get the ball rolling.

Chad would you be in favor of us putting together a website and adding a contribute to the author button in ObjectDCL?
