Vehicel tracking error message

Someone has edited one of the drawings or xrefs with a later version of Vehicle Tracking and this has updated all of the databases in the production drawings, now this message displays each time we open any drawing in the project.  I have already purged all of the registered apps from the drawings and xrefs this fixed the issue in the past, but this has happened again and I'm not able to find out who has this later version of Vehicle tracking.  I would not like to install the latest proxy objects, as this would mean I will to deploy the iproxy objects the whole team.  I just want to disable this message from appearing, is there a variable or a regkey to prevent this message from displaying?

I doubt there is a way of changing a setting to turn off the message as it is informing you of newer objects in the DWG.  I found this post from the knowledge base which may be of some help for you.  Talks about exporting the DWG which should in turn explode the proxy objects and could get rid of the message.   But if someone does have a newer updated version on their machine then this is likely to happen again and going ahead making sure all PC's are up to date with either object viewers or updates may be better for you in the long run.

Most of the drawings don't have Vehicle Tracking objects, it's just the drawing database which has been updated with Vehicle Tracking.  Which means I have to export every drawing & xref to clean up the drawings database, but this will only fix the problem until someone reopens the drawings with the wrong Vehicle Tracking version and updates the database again.

OK so i need a little clearification.  Is Vehicle Tracking installed on all machines or just some?  If so what version?  To me, it sounds like you have vehicle tracking installed on all machines and only use it when you need to.  It also sounds like one user saw an update for VT and did it thru the new update service CAD is using and is causing the issues.  If that is the case i would just make sure all computers are on the latest version which should be 2018.2 and it should clear everything up for you.  Or I could be totally missing your point and if so sorry.

We are currently using AutoCAD 2015 and have installed Vehicle Tracking on a few pc and the Object Enablers on everyone else.  Someone in the team has upgraded to a later version of Vehicle Tracker and has opened one of the xrefs which has updated the drawing database.  Now if you opening any drawings which has this xref attached will display the error message, even if the drawing doesn't have any Vehicle Tracking paths.  The only way I have been able to resolve this in the past is to purge the registered apps from all of the drawings & xrefs, but this will be the third time I've done this and I'm trying to prevent this issue from happening again.

Thanks for that bit of info.  I can see how that can be frustrating.  A couple more questions for you.  How many machines are we talking about?  Are you running stand alone versions of Vehicle Tracking or Network Licenses?  I have only begun using VT in the 2016 version but am pretty sure all the setups/updates work the same from version to version.  If you are running a network License have you considered installing it on all computers?  This would eliminate the need for both the program and object enablers on multiple machines.  If Stand Alone version, then the only way that I can think to rid yourself of this issue once and for all is to take some time and make sure everyone is current with all updates.

Unfortunatly once Vehicle Tracking is updated, so must the OE to coincide with the same updated version.  Now, after you sift through all the machines and get it all updated, I would talk to the IT team and lock down administrative privlidges on the CAD computers so you are in full control of future updates related to CAD products.  This will help ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen again in your office.  At my office we have computers locked down so only IT team members can apply CAD updates for this same reason.

Jacobs is the largest Engineering Consultant in the world with approximately 100 000 employees would wide, how many of these user have Vehicle Tracking installed would be a small percentage, but it still a larger number of users.  We use network licensing, so the vehicle tracking is deployed to the Civil team and the object enablers to the other disciplines. 

Many of our projects are joint ventures with other consultant and external clients, this can causes compatibility when they upgrade to later version of the software. 

The issue is with non-graphical objects populating the drawing database and not graphical objects like vehicle paths.

Ouch.....  OK then, I also run Civil 3d and Vanilla Acad and do not install VT on all Vanilla CAD machines but have never run into this issue before.  I also dont have 2015 to do any testing for you to put another set of eyes on this.  I CAN try and see if I can duplicate this in 2018 and open on my test machine which doesn't have VT installed and see what I can come up with because now you have peeked my curiosity as well on this.

Has anything more been done about this? We are currently now getting these same errors saying to update to 18.1 but we all have 18.2 installed.

We are in the same boat in 2019.  Have 2019 installed on machines WITHOUT Vehicle Tracking because it is supposed to be backwards compatible.  Many 2018 machines do have Vehicle tracking.  When someone saves the drawing, the 2018 copies all start giving the vehicle tracking message, not only for the drawing but for every single xref.

You can try to purging the Proxy objects from the drawings and xrefs, there is some tools online to do this, but this will only fix the problem until someone pollutes the drawings again.

I don't understand why Vehicle Tracker would add non-visible references to the drawing database in the first place, maybe a tick box could be added to this message with the option not to display it in the future or is there a variable, registry setting which could be used to prevent this from displaying.

Just adding to this thread for the developers to hopefully move this up the backlog.

We've got only a few VT installs, and so we are getting the error message on the other machines that do not have VT installed.  Where this really burns us is when we try to publish a drawing set from the machine that doesn't have VT installed.  Every time the publishing machine tries to print a sheet, the error message appears and you have to hit OK to continue.  This happens for every xref attached as well, so publishing is basically impossible unless the user is sitting there hitting ok a bunch of times for the publishing to go through.  At least give us the option of suppressing the message in some way, whether thats a variable or a setting, or something.

I'm going to try and install the 2018.2 VT update on the non-VT machines and see if that gets rid of the error message.  I don't want to install VT everywhere just because of this problem.

Seems to be causing a lot of problems for a lot of users, on the large-scale projects I work on it can take up to 10 minutes to clear the errors on the larger inter-discipline files.
Any response/feedback on how to stop this will be greatly appreciated.

We had to upgrade all of our CAD users to AutoCAD 2018, this fixed the problem until VT update 1 was released, so we updated everyone with this patch.  Then update 2 was released and we did the same.  Now this problem has come back again with the release of AutoCAD 2019 and we will have to do the same.  This has not been very well managed by Autodesk and causes a lot of administration work and down time by their customers.

There should be a tick box on the form to disable this message, preventing it from being displaying in the future.

Is there a way to keep vehicle tracking from loading every time I start a new session? I use it about once a year and now everyone that uses one of my dwg's is getting the message. I would like to be able to select when VT is active and tagging dwg's. Maybe uninstall it?

You can install the object enablers for vehicle tracker, but the message will only go away if they are using the same version of AutoCAD, unfortunately this won’t work if it’s a previous version.

Thanks. I will probably uninstall until the next time I need it. We've got machines all over the city throughout different agencies that I have no access to to install object enablers, and further, IT has us locked down with an applocker, so it's best to not create unnecessary waves.
