Difference between Vehicle tracking and AutoTrack

Hi,

I am beginner with Autodesk software. I understand vehicle tracking is the newere version of AutoTrack now provided as an add-on feature to civil 3d and not a standalone software. Please advise if my understanding is right.

Thank you.

Yes you are correct, Autodesk Vehicle Tracking is based on AutoTrack, the big difference is where as AutoTrack was sold in a modular format whereas with Vehicle Tracking all the modules (Swept Path Analysis, Light Rail, Airport Air-side vehicles and Aircraft, Parking Lot and Roundabout Design) are included.

Vehicle Tracking runs on AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil3D and MicroStation V8i. The windows standalone version and support for older versions of AutoCAD, MicroStation are no longer available. The new Roundabout Module in AutoCAD Civil3D is the Roundabout Module in Vehicle Tracking.

Vehicle Tracking can open and allow editing all DWG and DGN files containing AutoTrack data, it can also open Vehicle and Standard Library Files that the final release of AutoTrack could access.

Thank you for the detailed response, Nigel. I am interested in swept path analysis, parking layout design and optimisation, roundabout modifications and road width assessments. From what I understand of your reply, AutoCAD Civil3D with the Vehicle tracking module should be right for my application?
