VBA Questions

For those of you that program AutoCAD with VBA.

If all you had was VBA R2000 (no Lisp) to program AutoCAD, what would you
NOT be able to do? This is in comparison to Visual Lisp only. I'm asking
this because I'm curious as to where AutoDesk is now with full VBA
integration.

Have most of the R14 issues been resolved?

Really appreciate your insight.

If the plumbing were not hooked up to my bathtub, I could fill it by
carrying water from the kitchen sink. And if there were no LISP, I could
still do most of the programming that I do by using VBA. And I'd be as
happy about it as if I were filling the tub by carrying water from the
kitchen sink.

You'll probably get better answers if you post to the VBA forum (if this
post and the post to which it was attached is in the VBA forum, it's because
they were moved there).

Don't take it so personally Randy, it's liable to ruin your day. I'll keep
in mind your excellent plumbing story though and thanks so much for your
insight.

It so happens there are quite a few guys in the NG who program using
AutoLisp AND VBA. Since my experience is strictly with AutoLisp, I am truly
interested.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I'm taking this personally. Oh,
well. Tone of voice doesn't always carry well when it's run through the
keyboard.

I really don't have much VBA experience myself, so I really shouldn't have
responded either. Just adding my 2 cents, I guess. People must be starting
their 4th of July weekend already.

I notice that there are questions asked freqently in the VBA newsgroup that
are seldom asked here because they are so elementary to people working in
LISP. I think the reason for that is that AutoLISP was built to work with
AutoCAD, while VBA was patched to work with AutoCAD.

I think there's a lot who would strongly disagree, but they seem to all be
missing...

My question was actually based on a feeling I have that AutoDesk may one day
eliminate, or at least not continue to upgrade the functionality of, Visual
Lisp. In order to succeed, AutoCAD VBA would have to achieve a level where
today's benefits of Visual Lisp are compensated for. In other words,
anything you can do with Visual Lisp, you could do just as easily using VBA.
I was just wondering where AutoDesk is with this, as of this date.

Guaging from the response, they've got a ways to go. 🙂
