Vault Property drawing: does the drawing need to be updated?

Hallo Vault team,

regarding the project and engineering process in Autodesk Vault with Inventor users do not know if a linked drawing needs to be updated or not! If an assembly is released and the user is working on a change during a state change it is not evident if a drawing ist up to date. This is a big problem with Vault jobprocessor export of PDF files!

The jobprocessor is doing a FastOpen of idw/dwg files without a get of 3D CAD model file (ipd, iam) to finish jobs more quickly. So if a user changes a 3D CAD model  - for example a ipt-file- and does not open the linked drawing (idw/dwg) in Inventor to update and save it before releasing the PDF export is not correct.

Additionally the properties ar up to date on the draring head and the view in drawing ist old!

Possilble solution:

Is it possible to add a new property in Vault to see if a dragin needs to be updated?

It would be possible for users to filter through files in a project to see which drawings they need to update!

Additionally it would be nice to see it on ALL parent files (iam, ipt, idw, dwg). Also Assemblies need to be opend and saved in INventor in order to have an updated version of files in Autodesk Vault!

This would be a nice feature for all our Vault Workgroup and Vault Professional users!

Thanks for the post on the PDF'r doing fast open. Ws about to switch our company pdfer from our custom one to the OOB one. If it has this issue, I'm glad I haven't! 

Is there an idea to sort this?

Hi,

with custom jobs you've the possibility to change fast open to a "full-open", but it's not the common way to open all drawings without a fastopen. The jobserver's performance woult be decreased. For every PDf export ALL child would be downloaded. This is not possible for customers which have 3..4..or 5000 jobs on one day. So it would be good for the user to see if a drawing has to be updated. It is the task of the user to update the drawing BEFORE the job is logged in the que.

Second thing regarding PDF Export: maybe I would open a new idea:

If pdf's are esxported with VaultInventorServer.exe the grafic representation is not the same as with an export over inventor.exe. We think this is due to the circumstance that the VaultInventorServer.exe ist headless.

I would ask Autodesk to search for a solution. The InventorServer is much faster with exporting files than Inventor.exe, but if the exproted files are not shown as in inventor we can't use it properly!

It already exists in Vault Basic as a searchable property called File Status. It shows an Icon indicating some part or sub-assembly used by an assembly has changed so the parent should be updated.

It was super-convenient, but Autodesk removes the property in Workgroup and Pro for whatever reasons make sense to them. I would love to get it back, or at least make it optional for those of us that find it useful.

The need I received by our customers (I work for an Autodesk Partner), is to be able to know which files must be updated (if there are pending changes in children). If they forget to update a drawing for example. Or to know, with the ThinClient, if we can produce based on the drawing or if there are some possible pending changes.

I think the best approach is to inform if direct children (1st level) are up-to-date or if there is pending changes who are not reflected in the file.
