Use Autodesk Viewer when Autodesk Design Review is not installed.

Use Autodesk Viewer when Autodesk Design Review is not installed.

When Design Review is not installed, (at least in Vault 2022 and 2024), there is an error saying Design Review is not installed, and files cannot be viewed unless the user knows to go change the viewer option.

Automatically toggling the viewer option to use Autodesk Viewer when ADR is not installed would help with user experience - the files could still be viewed.

That toggle in Options could also prevent/disable choosing ADR until installed.

Thank you for posting the idea.

The Autodesk Viewer is selected by default out of the box. Did you switch it?

For our 2022 installs, Design Review has been default, I think, since installation.  If not, we did change it due to many years of using it.  However, I have had several users think Vault is broken when Design Review gets uninstalled because they can't view anymore.  In anticipation of situations like that, I'd like to keep Design Review default, but have it switch to Autodesk Viewer (instead of nothing) without user interaction or mine.

For 2024, we may start moving some users to Autodesk Viewer, but (feedback alert) just clicking through sheets or printing are multi-click operations buried under big menu buttons.  Many of our engineers also like being able to use Design Review for markup where they can paste images/screenshots from other drawings or websites, use saved symbols, etc.  It's a lot more lightweight than other standalone markup options.

Thank you for the feedback. As you can see, Design Review has not been updated since 2018 and will not be around for long.

We know the requests around drawing navigation and printing in the Autodesk Viewer.

We are hoping to address the navigation issue soon.

We recommend using Batch Plot for printing needs. The Autodesk Viewer is going to print a raster image and not a good quality image.

You can already Markup in the new Viewer without creating snapshot images and pasting them back into Vault. Have your users tried this?

Thank you for the suggestions.  We will need to get users to 2024 for the markup tools.  It will also be a bit of a mindset shift to not treat the Vault view like a print preview, but batch plot is probably a better place for printing.

I guess to clarify, the proposal here would be to default back to Autodesk Viewer as soon as Design Review is uninstalled or stops working, so there is not a time when visualizations cannot be viewed.  This would be important as people start phasing out Design Review and moving to Autodesk Viewer, and especially if their default viewer setting carries over when upgrading.
