Inventor FEA Supporting Files

Inventor FEA Supporting Files

In Inventor if I create an FEA analysis of a model the supporting FEA files are created and checked in with my model. If I access and open the file the Vault pulls my FEA files out along with my model. This is fine if I'm the one accessing the file. It becomes a problem when someone else (who knows nothing about IV FEA) opens the model and has to deal with the supporting files. Usually there is a lot of confusion on their part.

It would be best to some how "suppress" the FEA files until I need them. So, when someone else opens the model they do not need to "get" the supporting file (and ostensibly get asked to check them out).

In the FEA configuration, you can click "Do not create OLE links". The FEA-files are then not linked as 3rd party files, and are not checked into Vault.

The issue above was with Vault COLLAB 2011. I don't know if it was fixed in 2013 or not.

Hans is correct.

FEA  - > Settings -> Solver,

Uncheck Results: Create OLE Link to Result files.

If the parent model file has already been checked into Vault, I recommend checking it out, adjusting the FEA settings, re-saving, and the OLE links should be severed. If that does not work, head to

Tools -> Links

and break the links to the files.
