I have a problem when using a Custom Number Scheme with the Inventor Content Centre fasteners library. I use the numbering scheme to generate all the unique part numbers used by my purchasing department, whereby I have a 4-digit category and sub category identifier, followed by a 4 digit autogenerated unique identifier. All standard stuff. to use this however, I have to employ the 'Rename' function within vault - whereby the file is renamed and I use the option to update the part number field also. This works fine, and exactly how I need it to for my own designs and content but falls over when part numbering fasteners. Basically, the root of the issue is that when I insert a fastener from the inventor content centre, it will be generated from the family table. If I then go on to release this fastener for purchasing, I must give it a part number and at this point use the 'Rename' function, which crucially updated both the file name and part number. However, the next time I (or another user) want to insert the same fastener, Inventor looks for the file name from the family table, and if it does not exist will create a new part. As a consequence there were several instances of the same size fasteners in the vault, all with unique part numbers, by the time the problem was noticed (i.e. my purchasing department started screaming blue murder!) The current workaround is to run the rename function twice, first to assign the new part number, and second to rename the file to match the inventor family table. Making the number schemes available in edit properties would help solve this problem, or otherwise creating a part numbering routine with the option to leave the filename alone. Is this possible? Many thanks...
