ECO "On Hold" state

ECO "On Hold" state

Good day All.

It would be a good advantage to have an extra ECO state called "On Hold" This state would allow an ECO to be put on hold for any reason i.e. indefinately awaiting feedback from a 3rd party.  Once the information is received the "On Hold" state can be removed.  This "On Hold" state would also allow for a new ECO to be created for the related Item.  This would allow for multiple ECOs to be raised for an Item as long as all but one are on hold.

Currently an ECO would have to be cancelled and then a new one created from scratch once the required information is received.

I'm making this suggestions after a customer noted that they have a minor ECO open for an Item but need to open a second more major ECO for the same Item. However they cannot have 2 ECOs on the same Item.

I agree with this and will add my vote, but let me tell you what we did that was similar.

I added a property to my ECO's called "Assigned To", so anyone could see who was working on the changes.  For ECO's on hold, I set that property to "Deferred".  Then I created a custom view that simply filters out any change order with Deferred so it doesn't show up in the feed.  It's still there, and you CAN show it if you want to see it.  For me it's just cleaner with them off.  Not perfect, but it is a workaround.

We implemented 'Advanced Release' and Customer Approval properties on our COs for when we must hold open a change for the customer to approve. If we agree that the risk is minimal with incorporating the change into production without waiting for the customer, then we will mark it as Advanced Release = YES and close out the change.

I do agree with the current workflow in one regard: There should only be one active CO against any Item or File at a time. If another change is needed, then it should be rolled into the existing CO (with corresponding redlines, reasons, approvals) or close out the CO and start another. One more reason to have an ECR/ECO workflow in Vault.
