Change security on multiple files

At present we are doing a clean up on files, the security on them are all erratic from legacy data. It would be useful to be able to change the security on a batch of files within a folder to all have the same security rather than having to do them 1 by 1 from right clicking, selecting details and going to security, as this is incredibly time consuming.

I did some changes in our Vault recently involving a certain group of files.
I created a new Lifecycle with the desired permissions, then added all the files that were to go into that Lifecycle.
I may have had to change the lifecycle or category backwards and forwards, but the files got the permissions I wanted.

Definitely better than doing what you're doing for a couple of thousand files.

But my intention was for the files to stay in this new lifecycle.
Whether you can change them back to another lifecycle and keep the permissions, I don't know.
But maybe something to look into?

Thanks Mr Young. That would be one way to help speed up our problem, unfortunately however that wouldn't work. We have different lifecycles for our models, drawings and pdfs which all our users need access to. We are relocating alot of files in our Vault to a  new folder structure, where certain folders have restricted access to certain groups of users. The folder security is great and can be replicated when cloning structures but I can't apply similar permissions on the files unless I open them individually. If I were to do as you suggest with the categories, it would mean that our external suppliers we outsource some of our draughting to would run into issues with their models and drawings. We need to restrict them (and others) from certain files not categories.

Thank you though for your suggestion, it may be useful in other circumstances.

Hi Danielle, I have some custom code for the same issue, which can be shared if necessary. It resets permissions on files, to that of the parent directory.
