XML check-in in Vault Professional 2026

Hello everyone,

we are using AutoCAD Plant 3D with vault Professional 2026. Because Plant 3D settings are stored in .xml and some must be managed manually by opening .xml and chaning it. I would like for some users to be able to check out the .xml file directly from vault client and after changing it save it and then check it back in. Currently check out works, but the check-in doesnt work. There is no warning or error pop up. Also new version is not saved.

Can anyone please help me understand, are there any restrictions for checking in .xml files or something similar or are we doing something wrong.

Thank you in advance for your time and answers.

Best regards,

Matic

Hi @Matic_Mesaric ,

There is no restriction for xml file as such.

I can checkout a xml file, modify the xml file in working folder, Save and Checkin using Vault client.

Can you share the video or any error if you see that.

Hi @gandhey ,

Is there a possibility to vault working differently if this xml files are plant 3D projects files?

Here are some screen shots what is going on:

Check out works normaly

But when I try to make check in nothing actually happens

no new version is checked in, page does blink as a refresh but that is all it happens.

Did manage to get a bit of a workaround and check out the file in vault client, edit it on local working folder save it and then open project setup in plant 3D and just close it back down. That somehow makes a new version on the vault but I would really like to manage the xml separately.

Hope this additional info helps determine what is going on.

BR,

Matic

According to your images, you didn't make a change to the XML file. The icon next to it is still white with a check-mark.

Make sure that icon turns green with a check mark and then check in the XML.

If it is not green, Vault will perform an Undo Checkout because no changes were made.

What is the location of the xml file that you need users to modify ?

I guess there should be some location from Plant 3d - for which xml file to be used. Is the xml file location same as vault working folder ?

Hello @ihayesjr,

thank you for a reply. I tried now to check out file, make some changes, save file and it did turn green that check-mark.  The check in worked for making a new version on the server but the file was left checked out. After that just undo check out will remove the file reservation. Its not ideal but manageable.

Thanks again, best regards

We have set up the same folder as a working folder for the Plant 3D and the Vault (did figure in the past those needs to be set up in each program separately).
