Windows Server & SQL licensing for Vault

I'm going INSANE trying to get answers to this.  I've never dealt with anything so convoluted.

I've gone to our Autodesk Reseller and our Microsoft Reseller and get different answers.  Neither can (or will) give me a straight answer.  

Currently running Vault Basic.  Want to upgrade to Vault Pro.  And SQL Standard

Will have 5 Vault Pro fulltime users.

And ~10 occasional Thin Client users.

Microsoft Reseller says we need:

$1,022- 16-core Windows Server License

$698- (15) Windows Server CALS

$943- SQL Server license

$3,302- (15) SQL Server CALs

Autodesk Reseller says we need:

$1,022- 16-core Windows Server License

For SQL server you can do either core, or licensed + user or device cal’s.

With SQL Core licensing you do not need user or device cals.

I read that. It says consult a Microsoft licensing specialist.  Which is what I did.

And I still don't know what's needed.

It also doesn't answer the windows server licensing.

This is my opinion and I cannot legally answer for Microsoft on what there license requirements are. 

You need:

• A license to run Windows Server
• A license to run SQL Server
• User CALS for SQL Server

I do not believe you need the 15 Windows Server CALS. These licenses are for users connecting directly to the Windows server as if they are accessing a share on the server. Vault users are not doing that. They are accessing IIS on the server.

Vault Server, I think, would fall under "Specialty Server Licensing".

Go back to the Microsoft specialist to see if he better understands the Vault application and how user connect to it.

The administrator that logs into the Vault Server to gain access to the ADMS Console, they would need a Windows Server CAL.
