Vault Server - Automatic Deletion of Outdated Backups

Anonymous
Not applicable

Recently, Vault was down for a day. We didn't know why it wasn't checkin or checking out of drawings, or why we couldn't save them. Later we found that our server had ran out of memory since the backups were taking over 300 GB. This issue will continue to happen yearly if not more often unless we manually remember to delete old backups.

It would be better if there was an "out of the box" setting with Vault that automatically deletes old back ups that are X Months old. Each company could choose how many months to keep the backups but ultimately delete them when we no longer need them.

You might make an Idea post to help Autodesk gage customer interest in a better backup scheduling tool.

While you wait for Autodesk to make changes, you might try a backup script to manage the various backups.

See the following link for an example: https://mdoteam.com/blog/2016/02/18/a-script-for-running-automated-backups/
