Vault migration from Basic 2015 to Vault Professional 2021

 Hello everyone!
I need to ask for some advice.
I have a company that has Vault Basic 2015 installed on a server with Windows 2008 R2 Server and SQL 2008.
We are going to migrate to Vault Professional 2021, on a server in Microsoft Azure.
The work plan that I am preparing is:
Go from Vault Basic 2015 to Vault Basic 2017.
Then from Vault Basic 2017 to 2019.
Next, from Vault Basic 2019 to 2021.
Finally, from Vault Basic 2021 to Vault Professional 2021 on Azure.
The big question is: can all the intermediate steps in that plan be done on Azure servers or do I have to do them on physical servers? This, taking into account that there will be no users connecting in the intermediate steps.
Any suggestion you can give me will be welcome.
Thank you.

Best regards

Hi Claudio,

Either route will work. Staying on physical machines until the last step or going to Azure and migrating forward.  Ultimately, it comes down to costs in my mind and whether you have the physical machines around to do the migrations.  I would expect both options to work successfully for you.  Please remember to take backups.

it will be faster to do the upgrades on a local physical server you also have to take into account of the multiple sql server versions you have to go through
