Vault Professional 2015, getting ready to go to 2017

So I'm cleaning up the 2015 Vault that basically had NO structure, rules, etc.

They had stuff everywhere... without any guidance.

So here is my questions:

Library:

How can I pull everything out of it, so I can clean it up, put in the proper file name, vendor etc. You just can't check it out.

How can I put library items back in via a folder structure I have made for them?

Example, I would like to move the SLIDE GATE- KNIFE VALVE folder with all of the sub-folders right into the Library after I've clean up the files, populated Iproperties etc.

Structure.PNG

I'm trying to keep all of the references ...

Suggestions?

There has to be a way for someone have Total control of the vault for clean up / migrating etc.

Thanks,

Mike

I would just use Vault for that. You can rename file, without losing the reference (except for iAssembly)
You can easy move file to other folders.
If you check out the files and then move or rename with Inventor, you will loose all your reference.

Use Vault for that ?      In what name, I have 2693 files I need to update information on, and another 1000 to put into the Vault. Doing it one by one is crazy. You should have an option to drop and drag it into the library.

If you have a part that exists in an assembly and you move the location of that part with windows explorer you will lose your reference in the assembly.
When you this in the Vault it will update the reference in the assembly.

How would you like to update the information now? Using iLogic?

To update information you can also use the Vault, select the files you like to change and press ctrl -e.

For the 1000 files that are not in the Vault, maybe this is something: http://help.autodesk.com/view/VAULT/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-E815D09B-CBBA-4953-AC38-455A75E92B51

@Rob67ert

I appreciate you help ..

I just have so many files to clean up ... I was hoping for the old way that I could drag the folder out, clean it up fast and drag it back into the library.

I wish it was just properties to updated. I have to add threads to some .. a few color overrides ..

This VAULT was an Absolute mess when I contracted to clean it up.   As they start up work on making it better, I think there should be a Total ADMIN who can do things like this.

The ROI isn't there for me to clean this up Vault up, and I could see this being the same for a lot of companies using Vault.

I just wanted to thank you in helping me with this ..

Mike

D@mn, if i may say that here....that's really a big mess.
Why did they use Vault for that?

To bad there is not some thing you can do automatic for that.
Maybe you can use some trainee for that?

I did the same for a company a few years ago. The first thing i did was telling them how they should use it.

Good luck.

YEAH ...

Originally most of those pending purchase files were in a folder called Delete.  Jobs were in numerous folders including that delete folder.  I found one part in the Vault repeated 35 times, a different ways.   Derived ...

They have things EVERYWHERE and I'm reigning it all in finally, with a lot of cussing, What' the .. I need a drink, SERIOUSLY YOU DID WHAT ...

I was finally able to use on unique names after 10,000 some repeated files were deleted.

Going back to my corner to rock my self and back and forth saying why did I accept this task ..lol

Hope you had that drink.

Found this yesterday: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/learn-explore/caas/screencast/Main/Details/...

Maybe this can make it just a little easier for you.
