Upgrade to Vault 2022 from Vault 2019

Hello.

I am tasked with upgrading our CAD package to 2022. We currently have 2019 versions of INV, ACAD Mech, and Vault Basic. Our singular vault is located on a network drive that 6 users/laptops each access.

I have a new laptop I can use for the first implementation, and I am interested in setting up a new server with a copy of our vault for upgrade use, that way we still have the old vault if something goes wrong.

If I am to migrate to Vault 2021 on my new laptop, do I install Vault Server 2019 on it first, or can I install Vault Server 2021 and simply point to our existing vault to migrate? After Vault Server 2021, do I then install INV/ACAD 2021 and then Vault Basic Client 2021 so it can auto install the vault extensions for INV/ACAD? Will I need any other software for the Vault migration?

I apologize if some of these questions may seem trivial, but this is new to me and I reviewed several resources and they seemed more broad scale and not very specific to my situation.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Rafael

@rcolon9E4ZX

You should review the Vault 2022 Help | Upgrade Autodesk Vault | Autodesk Help topic to see the detailed steps on upgrading Vault.

Since you are on Vault Basic 2019, you need to first upgrade to 2021, then upgrade to Vault 2022.

Here are some steps you can use.

  1. Create a backup of the Vault Basic 2019 environment.
  2. On your new laptop install Vault Basic 2021.
  3. Restore the backup from step 1 and migrate the databases.
  4. Install Vault Basic 2022 and migrate the databases.
  5. Install 2022 CAD applications and Vault Basic clients

@ihayesjr ,

Thank you for the clarification. We are performing the vault backup to a new vault/SQL server later this week. So I will begin by installing Vault Basic - Server 2021 on the new laptop in preparation for the migration. I will wait to launch the software until the backup is ready, at which time I will restore the backup using Vault Basic - Server 2021 and have the data migrate. After restoration is verified [check out/check in successful], we will take another backup. At this point I will install Vault Basic - Server 2022 on the new laptop and use it to restore the 2021 backup and migrate data once again. After verification, we will take another backup and our 2022 vault should be good to go.

It is my understanding that I can install direct to 2022 via deployments [INC/ACAD/Vault client] for the end users.

Will my vault custom content centers come along for the ride during the migrations? Also, I have the 2019 design data and templates folders on a shared network drive. I have created templates and material libraries here. Does this media get copied and migrated into 2021/2022 folders during the vault database migrations?

Thank you so much for the help. I have increased confidence in this transition going quickly and smoothly.

Thanks.
