Thin Client File Downloads

Hi all,

Trying to troubleshoot something strange happening.

When clicking on file download within the vault thin client, both chrome and edge open a new window but then it closes automatically, only happens on some workstations, has done it on both 2023 and 2024 vault professional.

Happens on multiple workstations, even clean loading doesnt fix the issue.

If i copy the URL that opens in the new tab but then closes and then open a new tab and paste it into the browser it works fine, file permissions are set correctly.

Looking for advise on what i should be checking, previos diagnosing i found some 404 permissions errors but as i'd said the user has permisions for both read and download.

Thanks.

Have you tested this with multiple files? Ideally, if you could record your screen triggering the issue, we could analyze it better.

If you have DWG TrueView, check this article: https://blogs.rand.com/support/2016/06/vault-thin-client-cannot-download-dwgs-within-internet-explor...
Another article says there used to be an issue with having commas or blank spaces on the file names: https://www.synergis.com/2015/04/07/vault-thin-client-issues-downloading-file-based-on-the-browser-b...

This is a PDF file, i will do some more testing on the naming convention and see what i get back.
Really isnt anything to record, you click download a new tab opens and then closes without the file being downloaded, choose a different file from a different folder and it opens a new tab and the file downloads working fine. Both Edge and Chrome have the same result. This is a workstation only with thin client accessability.

I may play around with opening a new tab to see if it could be an edge/chrome issue.
Thanks.

All the more reason to record, if you came here because you could not find anything obvious.

I would be watching to see how deep the file path was (if over 230~ chars), if your PC already had a file with the same name, if you have cleared your TEMP folder under C:, if the Task Manager spiked any activity/process then, if your anti-virus was off, the size of the PDF/file being downloaded, if there are any unusual unicode characters in the file name, if you have adobe acrobat and what type of default PDF reader is set in Windows, etc.

So, found the issue in Microsoft Edge there is an option "Preload the new tab page for a faster experience" turning this off fixes the problem. As it didnt happen on all workstations i started to think it was a browser problem. Happy days!!!!
