This has officially bothered me enough times to make a post. Really hoping I've missed something here and someone has a simple solution for this. Seems likely considering I can't find an example of someone else online having the same complaint.
I like to use the 'Open' and 'Place' buttons under the Vault ribbon in Inventor. They're convenient.
However, I despise how the search feature works. I'll type in the name of the part I'm looking for and often times it returns a laundry list of files that aren't the part. I'm guessing some property within these files matches some part of my search query. But the actual file I'm looking for, whose name perfectly matches what I've typed in, is often buried under a list of other parts. I would really like if the first results were the ones that best match the search. However, from what I can tell, the only sorting options for the search results are sorting the columns A-Z or Z-A, which often isn't helpful. I don't want the files sorted A-Z, I want them sorted by how similar they are to what I'm asking for.
Here is an example of what I'm talking about: I type in "2773-mech" hoping to find the assembly named... "2773-mech". Seems obvious, but apparently not for Inventor. The file I'm looking for is indeed found in the search results, but it's the 66th line item, preceded by a bunch of parts that often don't even have "2773" or "mech" in the name (i realize the ones in the screenshot do, but roughly 50 of the parts above those do not). Look how far I had to scroll down to get the file I'm looking for.
Is there anything I can do to get this to work properly? I have found success typing the full filename with the extension. It just feels like that shouldn't be necessary. I actually would love if I could type even less of the name. I'd like if I could give it a partial part number and it return everything that matches that partial string, similar to how when I search Google for "york times", the first result is "The New York Times" and not a recipe for a barbeque chicken pizza.
Here's a real example of this: When I search "M025 1", why does it give me a bunch of seemingly random files that don't include that string of characters? I can't imagine someone wanting this to function this way. When I search "M025 1", I'm looking for all the stuff that includes "M025 1" in the file name (ie. M025 100, M025 122, etc.).
It really feels like I'm just not using this correctly based on how poorly it's working for me. Surely there is some option to sort results by best match, or maybe a special way I need to do certain searches with wildcards or quotations to get the results I'm looking for. Any assistance is appreciated. I'm often doing this several times a day, and while it's not a huge wrench in my workflow, it is annoying.
Thanks
