Running Vault Pro 2026 with SQL Server 2017

Hello,

We are looking to upgrade to Autodesk Vault 2026, but we are currently running an older SQL Server version—specifically, SQL Server 2017 CU31.

When I upgraded Vault Professional to 2026 on the server running this older SQL Server instance, I was able to open ADMS 2026 without any issues, and client connections to the Vault Server also worked fine.

I reached out to Autodesk Support about this, and they informed me that running Vault on an unsupported SQL Server version is at our own risk, as Vault 2026 includes features designed to work with newer SQL Server versions.

I’m posting here to gather additional opinions and share the information we received on this matter.

Could anyone clarify what specific features or improvements in Vault 2026 require upgrading our SQL Server?

@CGCal

Microsoft implements backend performance improvements and new ways to execute SQL processes, release to release.

You may not notice any changes in functionality, but any issues you encounter will not be supported.

We do not block the installation on older versions to help with the migration path.

However, I strongly encourage you to install the supported versions of SQL with Vault 2026.
