Plot from Vault Workgroup 2017

Hi,

We're not able to plot from Vault Workgroup 2017 to our Canon ImageRunner 4035 (a networked printer).  Each time we try, there's an error on the printer display:

The appropriate paper size, Custom, is not available.

Select another paper size, then press [OK] to start printing.

We're printing 11x17, which is what the printer supports, but we keep getting the error.  Does anyone know what we need to do to get this to work?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Bob,

Thanks for posting to the Vault Forums! I understand you are unable to plot from Vault Workgroup 2017 and get the error you mentioned above.

Can you elaborate a bit more on your process to plot and the steps you take to do that? The easiest way would be to share an Autodesk Screencast video and post the link here.

I see that your error message states that the "paper size, Custom, is not available". Assuming your plotter is configured correctly, I know of an issue in Vault 2016 SP1 where "custom" paper sizes were not allowed. The real issue was not the paper size but how the paper size was selected from the plotter menus. If the paper size was selected from the Plot Size column in the plot job file table, you would not be allowed to print.

However, if the paper size was selected from the Details view, then the plot was allowed.

I am curious to see what steps you are taking. Let me know how I can help you.

Thanks

We have this same problem, and I bet I can tell you what will help. However, I wish Autodesk would help out with a better solution, or shed a better light on how to correct it. Now, if you find a DWG (IDW) that you are wanting to plot from Vault, look at the System properties and the very last item is Visualization Attachment. If that says anything other than System...your printer will halt on the batch print job from Vault on every sheet. I would almost bet Matt's paycheck that is your issue. Sorry Matt ;D

Being the admin for Vulcan...I can assure you it is not an issue with the printers. You can print that very same DWG directly from Inventor without fault. The problem is in the generation of the DWF being used by Vault for the batch prints. You will need to ensure your Job Processor is set to generate your visualization files on Check-In. You will also need to very each client has the option toggled on to "Send to Job Server". Find that in the Settings button of the Check-In dialog. Now if a guru can shed some light on a settings or option to make this work another way...I would more than welcome an answer and so many Kudus!

Ugly fix...do a Find on your Vault for Visualization Attachment is not System and File Extension is DWG. Select all, Actions, Update View, and Queue Update. That should queue up the bad visualization files on your Job Processor.

Good luck

@Greatwhitenorth Were you able to look into the suggestions that @bushj and I provided? Have you seen any improvements? Is there anything either of us can clarify for you?

Thanks @bushj, your suggestion works!  I do agree with you that Autodesk needs to provide a better solution.

Thanks @reidmatthew, that was one of the first things we tried.

We'll use the @bushj solution until something better comes along.
